I've been to this restaurant a few times, and each time I left disappointed. Being Polish myself, there are times where I have cravings for some traditional Polish home cooked meals. Unfortunately, the food they serve there doesn't meet that standard. On many occasions my chicken was overcooked and dry, same with the beef, and they served me old dry bread. Thinking it may have just been a bad day I returned again, but the quality of the food was worse than before.
When you enter the restaurant, the bar is immediately beside the door to the right. Waiting there to be seated by a server is very uncomfortable. During the times of day I went there, the customers that are at the bar are just appalling. They take very Polish stereotype and multiply it two fold. As I waited, I can hear the remarks of the seemingly tipsy Polish people making inappropriate remarks about the female bartender/waitress, cursing among themselves, and in general being rowdy. I've never bee to a bar/restaurant where the customers act this way. I truly felt horrible for the young woman who had to be ogled by drunken middle aged - old men. Just look at the comment left above: "is besst restarunt, ..., have beest female waiter breasts,...". You get the feeling of the kind of environment this place welcomes. I've been to higher end bars/restaurants and this kind of behaviour would never be tolerated there.
Even though I am Polish myself, over the years I've generated a preference to speak English over Polish, so it comes naturally to me now to speak in English everywhere I am. The servers there do struggle to speak English to their non-Polish customers, but its not something that creates a serious road block. What does cause a serious road block is the lack of service you receive if you come during the day when the bar is full of the perverts. During my lunch, I ran out of water, needed ketchup, needed a napkin, and not once did anyone come by to see if everything was okay. The reason most likely was there was only one or two active servers and they were all busy taking care of the bar. It took quite a bit of effort for me to get them to notice me.
The price of the food there is reasonable for the quality that you get, but that's exactly it. Low prices, low quality food and service. It seems the majority of their income would be coming from the bar anyway during the weekdays as I was the only customer there for lunch that didn't go to the bar.
The decor is also dated and could really use a good renovation to update the place. There is an area that is segregated from the bar area that could be used for a decent dining experience, but all the time I went there they never allowed me to sit there, and I was forced to sit in the unsegregated portion of the restaurant having full view of the bar antics and how incredibly uncomfortable the waitress/bartender looked.
It is quite a shame the state this place is in. It could have the potential to be a real quality middle to upscale restaurant where decent people like myself would be able to go. The entire experience was just a bad and awkward one, and it's mostly due to the customers they attract...the stereotypical "Polack". Makes me a little bit ashamed to call myself Polish.
My advice from one decent person to another, go across the street to the Greek restaurant for some real European Cuisine and avoid Orbit. They have a better behaved bar, better decor and music, great food, amazing service and a more welcoming civilized environment. I hope one day Orbit can turn around and stop catering to the riffraff, improve their service, and improve their food. I will still drop by once in a blue moon for those days I absolutely need to have some kind of Polish food. If it does improve, I'll be sure to update my review...
Read moreLast Saturday, my husband, my daughter and my friends with their children, we all went for a dinner to this restaurant. We all ordered different foods from the menu. We ordered some appetizers, soups and main course dinner. I ordered escargot as an appetizer. The snails came served on mushrooms and baked with loaded with cheese. I was not impressed; as the whole experience was to taste snails not button mushroom and cheese. Another mistake was to order chicken for the main course. I had chicen cordon blue. I was the worst chicken I’ve ever ate. It was dry and looked like reheated several times. My girlfriend had a chicken de volaille and she was not impressed neither. We complained to the waitress that claim that she cannot do anything about it. In normal restaurant, we would be at least offered a discount. However the greatest pet peeve of mine was serving bottled water instead the tap one. Just to add extra cost to our bills. Again, the waitress told us that’s how they serve water there. It was our last visit to this restaurant. We would be better off to each some take out form Starsky instead visiting this...
Read moreIf I were to rate the staff, I'd give it 1*!!! Extremely incompetent bar tenders which make you wait longer than expected just to get their attention!
No! I don't appreciate someone looking me straight in the eyes and letting my face come to a boil as they pretend to be busy. Getting their attention is yet another issue which I dare not to develop into!
Having said that, the entertainment is always tip top, the DJ is great and the dance floor is just the right size.
The food is excellent and everything else is just about right. What makes me furious however is that they all make a HUGE problem out of serving TAP WATER!
For someone like myself who's allergic to bottled water and does not drink alcoholic beverages or pop, this becomes very problematic!!!
And the law states "... This is a stipulation of having an Ontario Liquor Licence. In order to serve alcohol, an establishment must offer free water to patrons and must also offer/serve food."
BIG AND BOLD!
Water is a human right!
Nevertheless if you are looking for a place to let loose then come by for a drink and stay...
