UPDATE: Changed to 4 stars
Went again after being contacted by the manager for a free dinner. The oysters are an amazing deal, especially on Tuesday's and Wednesday's when they're cheaper. Although, the other menu items are mediocre in flavour, and it does take longer than other restaurants to get your food, except the oysters which come almost instantly after ordering.
If you go on one of these days you'll notice that everyone seated around you has oysters on their table and it's for a good reason! I do believe the other food and service lacks because of the priority and demand for the oysters on these 2 days.
I give 4 stars because I wouldn't dare go anywhere else for oysters, but if they didn't have oysters, I wouldn't come again. For a pub, I'd expect the rest of the food to be better.
I see some reviews saying the new oysters served are smaller in size compared to before which is true, but they're Malpeque oysters and are far more tasty and better quality than the previous ones! $14 for a dozen is even cheaper than buying them and shucking them yourself!
Depends on what day you go as some servers are amazing while some are horrible.
Always had good experiences, delicious food and great servers until I went for a Saturday afternoon for the first time.
There were only 2 servers and only 2 tables filled excluding mine. I was waiting just to place my order for 30 minutes, I kept asking the servers if they would take my order but they gave all their attention to the other 2 tables. One of the tables was a big group of people but still, if you can't even handle a single big group at one table on a dead shift then how do you handle a regular dinner rush?
After waiting 30 minutes without getting my order taken I left. I'm giving 2 stars just because I usually go on weekday evenings and I never seen those servers before. My best guess is that they were new servers being trained during off peak hours, but shouldn't there be someone more experienced...
Read moreWent here with my girlfriends for Valentine’s Day. It was my first time going so I didn’t know what to expect, the interior was homey and different, it had a moody vibe to it but we were seated on the top floor instead of the lower floor which we preferred. The table we were sitting at was long, even though we only had 4 people and we were against the wall with our backs directly to the service tablet/computer and different waiters and waitresses would constantly be walking behind us in the tiny space to input orders which made us feel pretty uncomfortable. I don’t understand why we weren’t seated at the end of the table so that we wouldnt have this issue but I digress. Because it was valentines I knew it would be busy but there seemed to be ample staff working and customers were left to do what they wanted once they had ordered so there wasnt much time wasted in interactions with the staff, despite this after ordering we had to wait a long time for our food, I would recommend asking for the food to be brought out individually instead of all together because it took way longer this way. In terms of what I ordered, the truffle fries were good, a tad overpowering. I ordered the 25 layer vegan lasagna for my main and it did not disappoint, I think it actually did have 25 layers so you get your bang for your buck considering the dish itself also costs around $25. What was fun was their offer for a free amuse bouche, but it was in fact tiny, yet flavourful. I had also brought a little cake to eat with my friends and they charged us a $5 service fee for providing plates and forks and they didn’t even let us store the cake in the fridge. If I had known I would’ve rather eaten my cake in the parking lot for free with my...
Read moreHAIR IN MY OYSTER !!! 🤮 I've dined at the Wilcox numerous times without any issues with the service or food. However, after my recent experience, I won’t be going back, simply on principle. I ordered a dozen oysters for $37 to share with a friend, and when I got to the fifth oyster, I was shocked to find a hair in it. I brought this to the attention of the manager, who promptly took the platter away, stating that he would handle it. Although I was quite grossed out, my friend wanted to stay, so I ordered a main dish. Unfortunately, it was disappointing and the fish was overly battered. Given my previous visits, I attributed it to a bad day in the kitchen.
When the bill came to $100, I asked the waiter about the oysters. His response was that since it was just one oyster, they would take off my $10 beer. He even insinuated that I was lying, claiming no one in his kitchen had that type of hair. I was wearing a hat, and my friend's hair is curly, so that was absurd.
I argued that the food was contaminated, regardless of whether it was one hair or more. The waiter also suggested that if there had been hair in the other oysters, I would have felt it while chewing, which I found amusing since you typically don’t chew oysters. The restaurant's atmosphere is also quite dark, making it hard to see anything once the evening service begins. I don’t usually write reviews, but this entire situation left me very upset. Even though I could have made a scene, I paid my bill and decided I would never return. It’s unfortunate that the customer service fell short.
You never indirectly blame or criticize a customer. Such a shame....
