I really wanted to try Yum's Kitchen after hearing my friend rave about this place. If you live in Mississauga, you know that good Viet restaurants are few and far inbetween. The location is great and central at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview and while its in an older plaza, they did renovate the place and gave it a modern/casual feel. The few tables that they had were all occupied at Saturday 2pm, when I went. I can see people getting frustrated as there are very few tables. You order at the cash register and they will call your number for pick up. I couldn't see a garbage can, but there was a teenager wiping down and clearing the tables. For us 3 gals, we order 2 chicken and spring roll vermicelli bowls ($12). One spring roll was super crunchy, while the other one was not (odd). The portion is very generous with lots of grilled chicken pieces. It was served with the usual lettuce, chopped carrots, parsley etc. I poured the entire container of fish sauce and mine it was de-lic-ous! My friend recommended the beef stew, which can be served with steamed rice or the Vietnamese bun. I definitely have to go back and try the other items on their menu. Note - they do not serve pho. There is a banh mi lunch box special that runs 11-3 during the weekdays. For $14.99, you get to choose a banh mi, fresh roll or spring roll, salad or fries ad smoothie or milk tea. This sounds like...
Read moreThe food at Yums Kitchen is amazing. We've tried a bunch of different things from the menu, like bahn mi, vermicelli, baos, and rice dishes with different proteins, and we've loved everything. Even my husband, who isn’t usually into Asian food (crazy, I know) is always satisfied with his food.
Edit:
I feel obligated to provide an update since my last visit and review over a year ago.
During my most recent experience at Yums;
I was seated directly facing the kitchen prep area where I witnessed the food prep employee pick his nose (like really went for it) and not wash his hands. I get everyone’s gotta pick their nose sometimes but I think it’s common sense to not do that in front of customers and of course wash your hands!!! You are preparing food for others.
A waiter who brought us our drinks was in house slippers/slides. It just doesn’t feel acceptable in a restaurant environment for employees to be in slippers. I found this odd and maybe I was just already really distraught about the nose picking.
Prior to ordering, I asked what was in a specific noodle soup and was told all beef. When I received my food there was pig feet and blood curds.
I hope management brings back the quality of customer service, cleanliness and pride...
Read moreThis place might be the new kid on the block but it punches above its weight class. This place is AMAZING!
The menu is varied enough that anyone will be able to find something they'll like.
From shareable snacks, mains, hot and cold drinks as well as dessert, this place has got it. Eat to suit your hunger.
Do yourself a favor and try their pride: house made Banh Mi bread baked fresh 3 times a day. They use this bread for their sandwiches as well as the pairing to their various stews / curries / soups. It does not disappoint. It is soft and airy with a good mouth feel and chew. It's not dry and it sure as hell won't cut your mouth.
The portion sizes are generous and the quality is worth what you would pay for compared to other options.
As with many of the options in this plaza, this spot is worth going back to over and over.
Miss Jennifer and her team are craftsmen and you can see them work in their open kitchen. They use fresh ingredients and they work clean and fast.
They are nice and friendly which matches the vibe of the place. Bright, clean and airy, this place makes you feel right at home.
You can tell that food is a passion here and not just a paycheck.
I pray that this place continues to grow and thrive so let's show...
