Darbar Restaurant and Bar offers an authentic South Indian dining experience right in the heart of downtown. I recently visited for breakfast and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. I started with the Masala Dosa, which was delightfully crispy on the outside and filled with a perfectly spiced potato mixture inside. It reminded me of the dosas back home—just the right balance of flavor and texture. Another standout was the Uzhunu Vada, freshly made and served piping hot. The taste transported me straight to India; crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and absolutely delicious. Their Uthappam, a South Indian pancake, was also a highlight—crispy on the edges yet soft in the middle, topped with fresh onions. I couldn’t resist trying their filter coffee. The service was excellent, with a sweet and attentive waitress who ensured everything was perfect. I also had the chance to meet Chef Unni, whose efficiency and dedication were evident in every dish. The only downside was the parking situation. Being in downtown, parking was a bit tricky, though I eventually found a pay parking lot about 200 meters away. Overall, Darbar Restaurant and Bar is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine in Moncton. I highly recommend it for a delicious and satisfying meal.

It's a small and quaint restaurant with very good reviews! Time to put it to the test. So far I've been very unimpressed with the Indian food in town. The service is welcoming and offers quite a bit of recommendations and details explaining the food. That to me is a good sign. We ordered the Mysore Dosa and Masala Uthappam and a Falooda for desert. The Mysore Dosa to my pleasant surprise was very good and sampling the Masala Uthappam that my gf ordered also had a good texture and flavour. Have we finally found a good Indian restaurant in town? Also the side dish the Sambar stew was very flavourful. I have a favourite south Indian restaurant in BC and this place was comparable. For the Falooda, honestly it was ok, maybe just not my type of dessert, I've never tried it before. I think I would have really liked it if they would have taken out the canned tasting fruit and replaced it with fresh mangoes and fresh strawberries. Pricewise I don't feel ripped off and its not as ridiculously priced like some other restaurants in town... I haven't tried their North Indian food, so I can't speak for that yet until I try it. But for now I would recommend this place as it satisfied my palate.

The experience at Darbar was okay for me. It wasn't bad nor was it great. They are spacious enough for dining in but for me the problem is pricing. The first experience was just having tea and medu vadas which tasted good but the portion was so small and very pricey. Then tried their masala dosa, both the masala dosa and mysore masala dosa. Both of these were tasty and top notch in terms of quantity and quality but the problem is again the pricing. Yes, 18$ for a mysore masala dosa based on their quantity might feel okay as the quality is also great but it is still too much in terms of pricing. My recommendation would be to either reduce the size or the price because the size of the dosas is huge and is actually for 2 people. Also had their Kerala porotta and sambar which were also great in terms of taste and quantity. Again most of the items are too pricey and this is from the point of view of the customer.

I've had food from Darbar plenty of times but had a really disappointing experience today. I got chicken biriyani, mysore dosa and a fresh lime. Keep in mind, I've had these same items multiple times before and every time I've only had good experience. I don't know what has changed, is it the chef or the cooking process, but the dosa was drenched in ghee. Couldn't take a proper bite. The chicken biriyani was an absolute failure. It wasn't chicken biriyani, but mint chicken with pineapple rice. The "biriyani" had so much mint leaves in it that I could smell only mint when it was placed on my table. While eating as well, I could only taste mint and pineapple. It was disappointing. To top it all off, fresh lime, a very simple item from the menu, was disastrous. Firstly, the fresh lime wasn't cold. It didn't even feel like the water used for it was room temperature water but rather warm water. Secondly, instead of being sweet it was very bitter. I couldn't drink. I left it as it was. The service I got also wasn't up to the mark. The biriyani was served without a plate. I had to ask the server for a plate, only to receive 2 plates in which you serve deserts. I had to ask again for bigger plates to eat the biriyani. Another thing is, I was given a large ladle with the biriyani instead of a spoon. Overall, had a terrible experience with food and the service. I've received excellent food and service from Darbar and to have received the kind of service I got today is very disheartening and disappointing. I'm hurt by the fact that I had to pay a that amount of money for a very upsetting service and food. I truly wish I could get that money back. As a well-wisher and a customer, I request the owners to make the...
