While the tea house is very beautiful as many of the reviews here say my experience was disappointing. The tea was not hot. The food was displayed lovely however it tasted like the weeks leftovers. As an example, I did the gluten free option and my scone came out so hard that after several attempts I literally could not cut into it. It was cement and what I could chip off was gritty. Far from fresh. Our server laughed it off and said she would make me a new one. We thought it was laughable as well that a place that seems so distinguished and speak highly of their full course experience would think that is acceptable to send out to a guest. I did eventually get a āsconeā at the end of dining however was more like a macaroon and was so sweet that it didnāt taste good with the jam pairing. The ādessertā offering was one lone strawberry and the final plate was chocolate mousse I selected but was frozen along with the cheesecakes our group ordered the fruit was still frozen and not able to be eaten easily. Not fresh at all as the owner has indicated in a previous response and really missed the mark on traditional high tea. Perhaps because Iāve experienced high tea at another establishment along with the reviews posted here my expectations were higher than someone who has not experienced this type of dining. For the price I would expect better service and better quality. The tea selection was lovely however only a couple servings, was not hot, warm at best and no cream or sugar offering. With only a couple tables to serve at a time thereās no excuse for prepping food far ahead of time. These reviews are either paid for or this has changed owners as I canāt imagine this was just a bad day. It has all the right potential when you walk in the door however If you are looking for a traditional high tea experience I would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere are some people who are so passionate about their craft or trade or subject that it shows. The couple who run this tearoom are such people.
I will go as far as to say my experience getting high tea here was superior even to the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, BC.
Firstly, you chose your teacup from a collection of carefully curated vintage antique teacups with some spanning over 200 years of age. The couple who run it apparently collect such tea cups from auctions in Europe and across Canada.
Secondly, the selection of teas was SUPERB, with high-end hard to find teas from the old Singapore tea company TGW. This place and another in Vancouver are apparently the only places in Canada you can sample them.
Thirdly, the host was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about tea. He was also kind enough to offer a third pot of tea to us.
Fourth, the ambiance and seating arrangement was beautiful...it looked like you were sitting in Europe.
Fifth, the food associated with high tea was INSANE. Beautifully made cucumber sandwiches and an incredible smoked salmon sandwich with fresh dill from the host's personal garden in little croissants. The non-alcoholic champagne was also amazing. As were the desserts.
This was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant let alone a tea house.
I just wish I lived closer to Moncton, to experience this place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am all fir supporting small and local busi ess. I went with a group of ladies who love tea rooms after reading the reviews. Ordered the queens tea service. The queens tea servic was not served as an individual portion but as a shared plate between two people. We were disappointed as the sandwich was two slices of bread with a smidgen of butter between the bread and a slice of turkey on top and unfortunately it was dry. The desert was semi frozen, the scones fell apart, the jam tasted store bought. The Gluten free options were available but very limited ad yoh could not cut the scone due to being kver cooked. We had to find the server for a replacement which she did, but it came at the end of the service. The server tired but was new and lacked experience in a tea room setting.
I am not sure where Mr Alvarez had tea for the price he listed but it wasn't here. His pictures definitely are beautiful and do represent the inside of the building.
If you are looking for a traditional queens tea service, spend the money and find an authentic location. This tearoom would be better suited if they represented their culture and history with the...
