I recently dined at Star of India and I must say that my experience left much to be desired. The dishes I ordered, specifically the butter chicken and corma chicken, were far from satisfactory and resulted in a rather unpleasant aftermath.
To begin with, both the butter chicken and corma chicken appeared to be of subpar quality. The flavors were lackluster, lacking the aromatic blend of spices that one would expect from authentic Indian cuisine. The sauces tasted unusually dull and lacked the richness and depth of flavor that are characteristic of these dishes. This alone was disappointing, but unfortunately, it was not the end of my ordeal.
Regrettably, the consequences of consuming the food became apparent the next day. I experienced severe discomfort and stomach upset, which led me to believe that the ingredients or preparation methods used might not have met the necessary hygiene standards. It was disheartening to deal with the aftermath of my dining experience in this manner.
Furthermore, as I attempted to salvage the leftovers by storing them in the refrigerator overnight, I was confronted with yet another disconcerting surprise. Upon opening the container the following day, I noticed that the remnants of the butter chicken and corma chicken had turned an alarming shade of green. This was a clear indication of the food's deteriorated state, raising concerns about the freshness and quality of the ingredients used.
It deeply saddens me to have had such an unfortunate experience at Star of India. As a customer, I expected a certain level of quality and adherence to food safety standards. However, the old and poorly prepared dishes, coupled with the subsequent digestive discomfort and the spoiled state of the leftovers, left a lasting negative impression.
I sincerely hope that the management of Star of India takes this feedback constructively, recognizing the need for improvements in their food preparation, ingredient quality, and storage practices. Ensuring the satisfaction and well-being of customers should always be a top priority for any reputable establishment.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend dining at Star of India until they address these concerns and make significant improvements to their culinary offerings and overall quality...
Read moreI had visited with my boyfriend ( Punjabi ) and my friend for the first time at this restaurant. We spent 90$ all together as we got a couple dishes to share . The decor is very outdated but I mean decor is just decor . The menu looked very old and outdated but still wanted to get the food a chance.
We had ordered 2 samosas to start … they were absolutely flavourless … it sorta just tasted like boiled potatoes with frozen vegetable in it.. it absolutely had not one spice .. not even salt or pepper . Was a disappointing start.
The main dishes came out and we got butter chicken , Shahi paneer , lamb curry and for side dishes we got naan , garlic naan and roti .
They did advise us the butter chicken was sweet and we said ok expecting it to be slightly on the sweet side instead of spicy … the butter chicken looked like fuchsia orange which was concerning .. as I ate a bite of the butter chicken , it was so sweet I actually thought they accidentally dropped straight sugar in it . The “gravy “ was a grainy texture from all the sugar .. it was absolutely horrible
The shahi paneer was absolutely wrong to the point where I wasn’t even sure if they gave us the right thing … the chesse was cleared fried completely and there was no actual smooth sauce … it was big chunks of green peppers ( which don’t even go in this dish ) , big onion pieces and other things . This too absolutely lacked any any any seasoning.
I couldn’t even eat the lamb curry .. it was a chunky green sauce with lumps and the lamb just wasn’t good . I was a little nervous eating the meat to the point I did not touch it.
On top of all of this , the roti was so terrible … they were clearly over cooked and dry . My boyfriend took a bite of the rohti because I told him it taste burnt and I swear it almost cut his pallet . It was absolutely hard , dry and just not it.
Unfortunately this is not a good place to go … this is no where near real Indian food and definitely not worth any of the money … if your considering this place , it may not be...
Read moreThe Star of India on Sherbrooke has survived the test of time (over 50 years) for several good reasons...This cozy little gem almost feels like another home to me because of the welcoming service which is always up to par. Whenever I call to reserve a table, they recognize who I am because I am a regular diner. Also, whenever I order, they remember all my favourite dishes. The quality of the food is always fresh and succulent. I have dined here with family, friends and co-workers over the years who have all trusted my "refined palate" . They were as impressed with the service and quality as I have been.
