Great coffee spot- however bleached blonde male barista has a serious attitude, disrespect, and apparent interest to make customers feel belittled. During my first visit, I asked the cashier if they served matcha. He came barging from around the counter aggressively “educating” me on the proper utilization of matcha and how it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and there is absolutely no way this establishment has matcha laughing at my lack of proper matcha education. Completely unnecessary, rude and again no need for the aggression over a simple question that I was asking the cashier, not him.
My second encounter at 49th I ordered a lavender latte which was delicious. However, shortly after I ordered the latte, I asked if it was possible to be made with ice. I am a new customer and have only been here twice. He came barging from behind the counter to educate me that I “need to know my proper order” BEFORE ordering and that iced is $3 extra. His goal was to make the customer feel stupid when I am just trying to enjoy my coffee on a Saturday morning. I am more than happy to pay $3 extra for an iced latte. I just didn’t know.
My final experience was when the same gentleman came over to me as I was quietly enjoying my coffee demanding to see my dog’s paper work which I gladly showed. I asked him if he additionally asked the other two customers for their paper work as well. His response was that they are regulars and he knows them. This gentleman refused to give me his name and told me his name was “dead.” I am pregnant and on bed rest with limited ability to go out and about at this time. I really wish this could have been a better experience. The establishment is lovely and coffee is great however the gentleman with bleached blonde hair has definite hurt in his heart and I truly hope he...
Read moreWhat a ripoff, paid 3.75 + tax + tip one of their 'Lucky' donut they make on location, which ended up costing me 5$, for one very average donut.
And the service is extremely slow.
I would have paid 1.75$ for that donut, and that is generous, even at that price they should consider themselves 'Lucky', I guess we know where the name comes from now.
There is this trend in Montreal since last year, where 5-6 supposedly 'craft donut' shops keep popping up like mushrooms, and they all charge 5$ for them, or 30$ for a box of 6 donuts? What a joke.
There is a reason why Dunkin Donuts in canada went bankrupt about 10 years ago, because Tim Hortons had coffee that was at least drinkable. And there is also a reason why they sell very similar donuts at 12 for 5$, they cost nothing to make!
This Lucky Donut and 49th parallel coffee shop are abusing. The problem comes from the fact I had to pay to try and know their donuts had nothing special and were near worthless. Wasting 3$ is not tragic in itself, and as a foodie, trying is part of the game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
The problem is when so many restaurants are ripoffs like this, and sget away with it (since most customers are tourists who don't know them and will never come back anyway), for the foodie, it ends up a big waste of money, it is frustrating and discourages from giving a chance to other restaurants or caterers who might otherwise be honest and...
Read moreI had a bad experience with the Barista(that wears glasses) working here at 4:15 PM Monday, March 8. My Cortado/Piccolo was a dark roast(Old School beans). I asked the Barista if they have light roast beans they're serving today. He approached me with an attitude telling me that it's normal that espresso is bitter even though I ordered Cortado.
As a coffee enthusiast, I know what espresso is and its variants with milk and what they're called. I have experience as a Barista and I practice coffee making at home with a pro-consumer machine (Rancilio Silvia) on daily basis. I would expect an open-minded conversation in terms of beans with the Barista rather than him being conceited.
Also, a week ago, when I asked for Cortado at the coffee serving stand, Barista replied with an attitude again saying" Cortado or Piccolo doesn't matter what you call it, one is Italian other one is Spanish." Even though, the employee at the cashier took my order as "Cortado". He has no idea if I know what Piccolo means. It's really not necessary for Baristas to show off like that, not knowing what other person knows/doesn't know. Latte art was well-made and I have no problems with the skills of Baristas, just with...
