Read moreLoved the service and the menu looked amazing! Unfortunately the flavours were disappointing... most dishes I tried tasted mellowed down to me. Conceptually and visually great dishes but underwhelming for the palate. Otto Salad: the list of ingredients makes it sound quite out there.. it ended up tasting of just kale dusted with parmesan. The poached egg didn’t do much for it and made it hard to share. That’s too bad because, by the own waitress’ admission, most people order the smaller dishes and share. Karaage: this one really fell flat. The chicken wasn’t seasoned at all. Had to drown it in sauce to get some flavour out of the dish. The side of kale was bulky and didn’t add much to the plate. There was a tiny bit (2 slices) of some picked veggie and it help cut out the fattiness and bring some freshness. More of that would be great! The only sauce that came with it was mayo-based. Asked for something on the spicier side and was given a choice of powder or oil. Chose the powder, ended being quite a dry experience. A choice of dipping sauce would be great here, in my opinion. Brussels Sprouts: this was very nice! Came out hot and tasty in just a few minutes after ordering. The flavours were great. The crunch of the seeds with the soft, slightly charred Brussels sprouts really works out nicely. Definitely recommend for anyone who still thinks Brussels sprouts can never taste good! Pork Buns: this one I was the most excited about and disappointed with. It was just greasy and nothing else. The pork seemed underdone (very soft white fat). Could use a few more veggies or herbs inside to give it a boost. Matcha cheesecake: soft, creamy, not too sweet and quite matcha-y. There was no crust but some crumble topping replaced that. This was a very nice note to end on.
Thank you very much for the...
Read moreI was very excited to try the place but the service we got was honestly quite bad. We arrived 15 minutes late to our reservation which we apologized for. The hostess made it seem like we were a no show and basically told us we had an 1h30 to eat and leave right as we came in. The hostess was quite condescending, it felt like they were trying to kick us out. I honestly believe that they thought we weren’t the right clientele for their restaurant or something because the attitude the hostess had right off the bat was very uninviting. The waiter was a bit nicer but it still felt like we were not taken seriously. I appreciate that there were no issues with our order and we didn’t wait to long to receive our meals. This was all very disappointing since ambiance of the restaurant and the food were both AMAZING. For the appetizers, we had the beef tartare and the gindara filet which were both delicious. We then ordered the chef’s choice of sashimi as well as the toro & uni nigiri which tasted very fresh. We topped it off with their dessert which was a delightful passion fruit and mango mousse covered in white chocolate.
I honestly wish I could have enjoyed the food more, the service honestly ruined my birthday dinner. We ate very quickly and rushed out to the original otto bar...
