Decided to give Casa Grec another try for their Friday lunch special, and honestly, I left disappointed. While most spots offer lunch deals until 3 p.m., which was convenient, thatâs about the only positive thing I can say.
The vibe? Dead. Aside from a few folks over 65, the place felt lifeless. What used to be a charming touchâthe basket of warm bread and butterâhas now been swapped for hard, weirdly toasted garlic bread that tasted stale and uninspired.
We started with their complimentary soup, which is supposed to be chicken noodle. What we got was a creamy, dill-heavy concoction that didnât resemble chicken noodle in taste or appearance. Just⌠no.
I ordered the shrimp special. While the salad dressing is still a hit (itâs the one thing theyâve consistently done right), the rest of the plate fell flat. The shrimps were tinyâlike laughably small. Presentation? Nonexistent. Across the street at au Vieux Duluth , they serve shrimp twice the size, and their portions (salad, rice, potatoes) are far more generous!!!!!!
Letâs talk about the calamari. We ordered it as an add-on and regretted it instantly. It was rubbery, flavorless, and served with a cheap cocktail sauce youâd expect from a frozen shrimp ring. We decided to pack it up to go, but the smell was so foul in the carâlike actual rotten fishâthat we had to pull over, find a garbage can, and toss it out. Zero stars. Do not eat that.đ¤Ž
My boyfriendâs steak? A total joke. We asked for medium, got a dry, rubbery well-done mess that looked like it had been through war. He barely touched it. There sauce/ gravy is good and that the only reason we / me chose this place to eat in the first place.
This used to be a place my mother-in-law would order from for New Yearâs. Iâve told her to stopâthereâs just no quality here anymore. The ambiance isnât inviting, the food isnât worth the price (I paid $19.95 for four mini shrimp), and I wouldnât consider it for celebrations, date nights, or honestly anything.
Iâve been a Yelp Elite for 12 years and I review restaurants professionallyâthis one is a hard pass. Maybe it was something 20 years ago, but itâs definitely...
Read moreWhen we walked in the waiter we had gotten last time we where there 3 days earlier was asked by the hostess "do I put them in your section" and he responded "no" probably because we don't bring wine we drink water. She put us with our kids this time in an out of the way both where we where forgotten for at least 25 min except from the busboy who brought us our water and bread.when the other waiter finally came to bring our menus we where frozen due to AC. We ordered it was a very long wait ,we finally ordered I asked for a fillet mignon well done we waited again the food finally arrived my fillet mignon was burned to a crisp charcoal burned . I tried to eat it anyway I didn't want to complain it was my husband's 65th anniversary and we had waited for hours the waiter came to see if all was well he clearly saw I couldn't eat that 45$ charcoal burned meat. He offer to change it I said no I wasn't going to have everyone wait another 2 hours to get my meal , so I tried to cut it and eat around it nope the waiter came back and insisted to take it back saying it's simply how well done is prepared there . I gave him my plate and left he had ruined the evening. I was clearly distraught he apparently brought another fillet mignon much nicer moist and tender in less than 10 minutes. Unbelievable we where charged our meal my family took my meal in a doggy bag and met me in the parking lot. It took us 3h hours to be served and 30 min to eat .They day we whent myself and my husband we where served right away in a nice both for couples I had ordered steak well done again it wasn't charbroiled a very big difference between the two times . No I don't recommend this restaurant with kids and no wine. Horrible experience I gave it one start cause I can't give it no stars because if I could I would or...
Read moreThe positive: Our waiter, Danny, was amazing. He tackled the back rooms with like 80 people solo with efficiency, humour, and no mistakes. Also, the food was well cooked, the perfect temperature, and tasty. The constructive: We arrived with a group of 30 about 15 minutes before our reservation and were told we'd have to wait in the entrance until our reservation time, not entering into restaurant. We weren't alone, as there was another group of about 25 also waiting for the same thing. The entrance was jam packed with insufficient seating or even standing space for everyone. We were finally allowed in about 20 minutes after our reservation time. Throughout the meal, we were blasted with the incredibly loud music playing at the anniversary party in the next room. It was so loud we had trouble hearing one another. I think they problem was that the seperation between the rooms was just a simple thin partition. Once in, it was 45 minutes before they started taking our orders and then an hour before the food came out. I understand that the restaurant was full, but it wasn't a great experience. Then, when we got the food, parts of it (potatoes and pepper sauce) were incredibly salty. Overall, it seems that the restaurant's main failing was organization and having enough staff on hand. One waiter for a room with nearly 60 people that all sat at the same time was not nearly enough, no matter how amazing he is. I probably wouldn't come back with a big group, but would with...
