We booked a table at fitroy for a 5a7 after work. It came highly recommended. When the place was booked we were asked to make sure we had ID to prove that everyone was above 21. Then we were told that we all had to spend a minimum of $25. The red flags should have been up from then. When we arrived they "lost" our reservation but were able to accommodate us as it was 515. The table area was nice but one of the couches was broken so half of the party was basically on the floor. They carry Michel jodin cider and it wasn't bad at 5$ a bottle. The food choices were kind of limited. Most of us got the hotdogs. 4 hot dogs and a bag of chips for 12$. The end of the night is when things got really sour. I asked for a glass of water from the waiter and it arrived an hour later. Thank god I had asked the busboy for a glass. He brought me one within 10 minutes of asking. At 10:06 a waitress we have never seen before tells us that the next reservation has arrived early and asked us to vacate the table. We had half a pitcher left. They asked two more times. Finally someone from the early party tried to intimidate us to leave. I told him we had till 1030, he rolled his eyes at me but thankfully left us alone for our last 10 minutes. The atmosphere for the club is nice but the wait staff is arrogant and didn't stop the other parties intimidation tactics. Oh, and my bill came to 24$ and the waiter said that he can't charge me less than 30$ on his machine so he would give me the difference in cash. Not recommended unless you have infinite patience for bullshit. Oh and don't order the Fitroy special beer, it...
Read moreAfter being there a couple of times past few months, trying to become a regular and support the bar, always dropping 100$ on average for the drinks and billiards; the girls in the front (billiards) are very kind and always very helpful, the waitresses same, kind and polite, always. Tonight I was in for about 2h, but my friends had to leave so I paid the bills and walked out my friends, kept them company for a smoke and then walked back up to use the washroom and start a new tab, literally 8 minutes later. The random security guy stopped me, telling me to go back in the line. I told him I was an existing customer (was already inside for the evening) i even showed him the receipt and told him I had a reservation, but he couldn't care less, not a single damn was given. He told me to go in the line (about 20 people) and would not let me back in, clearly displaying an egocentric unprofessional approach. I was already a customer, already inside, I had only gone down for a smoke. His attitude was garbage, clearly not caring about customers, but what seemed like he only wanted to "show off" the ladies in front that his ego had the "power" to turn people away. Very unprofessional, deffinitely leaves a bad taste. Dear Fitzroy, if you want to keep your customers, fire this rude security guy or give him some training in logic. He desperately needs it. But once inside, the place is great (just don't order food, stick...
Read morePositive: Great music and vibes in the billiards and foosball area.
Negative: The service and the bathrooms. When we called to reserve for a friend's birthday, the person on the phone told us that the place was for people ages 23+. So we couldn't invite some friends who were under 23. But once we arrived we asked why such young people were here and it turns out its 18+, but you need to be 23 to reserve. It sucked because we clearly understood that you had to be 23 to come play. Also when we arrived the receptionists were a bit cold and we felt forgotten as we were waiting for our billiards poles.Staff are young university or cegep students that don't care about providing good service.
Secondly the mixed gender bathroom is too open. It doesn't provide a safe space for women. Large cracks between the doors and lots of space under the doors ensure very little feeling of safety and privacy. The stalls are flimsy and the one I used didn't lock properly. While doing my business a guy walked in with his beer shouting obnoxiously looking for his friend and I literally jumped from hearing his voice and seeing his silhouette pass between the cracks. It really wasn't for me. Some girls may know how this feels. It sucks and...
