I recently visited Hurley’s Bar in Montreal for the first time, and my experience was definitely memorable—especially since I went on Saint Patrick’s Day. If you’ve ever been in Montreal on this holiday, you know the streets are packed, and Hurley’s was no exception. To add to the excitement, it was also the 200th anniversary of the parade, making the bar incredibly lively, with a festive atmosphere that you can only get when live music, a fun crowd, and plenty of green combine. The vibe was spot-on for the occasion, filled with a mix of locals and tourists all in high spirits, enjoying the parade and soaking up the Saint Patrick’s Day energy.
The atmosphere at Hurley’s was fantastic. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by the sound of lively Irish music. The place was buzzing, but not overwhelmingly so—it had the perfect balance of energy, making it feel like a classic pub experience where everyone was there for a good time. The crowd was friendly and there was a genuine sense of community, adding to the festive spirit.
As for the food, I opted for a smash burger and poutine—two quintessential bar snacks. The burger was solid. The patty was juicy with crispy edges from the smash technique, fresh toppings, and a soft bun. While it wasn’t a game-changer, it hit the spot, especially with a cold beer in hand. The poutine was equally satisfying. The fries were crispy, the gravy was rich and flavorful, and the cheese curds had the perfect squeak. It wasn’t the best poutine I’ve had in Montreal, but it definitely met my expectations and satisfied my cravings.
That said, I found the food a bit overpriced. At $10 for the burger and $10 for the poutine, the portion sizes felt a bit small for the price. Of course, I understand you’re partly paying for the location, the vibrant atmosphere, and the experience—especially on a high-energy day like Saint Patrick’s Day. While the food was enjoyable, it wasn’t extraordinary, but it certainly did the job in satisfying hunger and adding to the overall experience.
In conclusion, Hurley’s Bar in Montreal is a great spot for anyone looking to experience a lively and festive atmosphere, especially on Saint Patrick’s Day. The food is solid, the live music is a great touch, and the energy of the place makes it a fun spot to soak in the holiday spirit. I’ll definitely be back—but next time, I’ll probably visit when it’s a bit...
Read moreDisgusting, rude and appalling!!! A supposed fun night out with friends turned out be a nightmare. On a busy Thursday night in Montreal city, a waiter and his manager manage to disgust a client to a level where the client just leaves the restaurant feeling disrespected and extremely frustrated.
Staff shortage at this establishment seems to force the waiter to work many tables at the same time. I feel for this waiter, the place is understaffed and it’s a busy night. But this does not justify his aggressive attitude, poor demeanor and overall lack of respect to the clientele. As I was raising my hand to signal the waiter that I was ready to make my order (15-20 mins of waiting on him) he shouted with the most sarcastic of tones: “I see you! That’s very annoying what you’re doing!” I did not hear him correctly as I didn’t expect that from him, my friends repeated to me what he said. I asked him when he approached: did you say that’s annoying? He replied with all the smugness in the world Yes. Aghast at this lack of hospitality I told him thank you for your time, I will not be ordering tonight. This made me feel very disappointed, and embarrassed in front of my friends.
I asked for the manager, I instead got the “bald guy behind the bar” who did not listen to my side of the story and aggressively discredited my version of the story which is the dumbest thing to do as I was genuinely trying to give constructive criticism to help the restaurant self improve not to attack a waiter whom I know is having a rough night. I did not receive an apology but rather “leave we don’t care if you’re not enjoying your night here”. He assumed that I was the person out of line in the situation and didn’t offer to remedy the problem. Very poor managerial and communication skills.
The understaffing is not my problem, so please advise your bar manager to become more friendlier and accommodating to customers needs and wants. Also please hire more waiters to accommodate the increasing number of patrons.
Never have I ever experienced such a bad dining...
Read moreDon’t recommend this place at all!! I am sorry but if I would describe a few words of my experience drinking and eating here it would be - horrible service and bland food. My boyfriend and I decided to eat and drink here during Grand Prix on June 17th at around 8 pm. The waiter first warned us saying that they can no longer give any more pitchers of beer. I understand it was Grand Prix weekend, thus demand was high but they should have been better prepared for such a popular event. It wasn’t a total let down but when my boyfriend wanted to order another glass of beer the waiter rarely came to check on us again if we wanted more drinks. It was so hard to catch her attention even though she passed our table often, but anyways she finally gave us our second glass. Another negative point was that after one hour and fifteen minutes we finally received our food and we were so hungry at this point that we practically inhaled our meals. We asked for the bill right away to which my boyfriend gave zero tip for. The service was below mediocre, food took forever to cook and was subpar, and the service was simply disappointing. I repeat I don’t recommend going here. Also, we greeted her in French but she automatically responded and carried on the conversation in English. That was fine because we are bilingual but waiters or anyone in the service industry should always communicate accordingly to the customers preferred language. I would assume that this accommodation is strictly enforced given...
