I went to Jiao for my birthday. Unfortunately, I was left very disappointed and frankly embarrassed that I picked this establish to bring my friends to celebrate my birthday. We had our reservation on a Monday evening. Keep this in mind. We were greeted 20 minutes after seating down and another 30 minutes for our order to be taken.

The food is good but for the price, the service should be decent. I’m not even asking for exceptional service, just the basic service. We were a party of 5 and we were sat at booth meant for 4. We were cramped.

We were told our waitress was “new”; Alicia. She forgot one of the drinks’ and after asking 3 people we were told they didn’t have the ingredients. Our food was delivered at different times and we had to remind them of what food we were missing. PLUS we were brought other tables meals. That isn't covid safe. We were breathing on other people's meals for them to only be delivered to the correct table. Not safe during these times...

Missing food, missing drinks’, and wrong tables food. It isn’t our job to correct the waitresses (MULTIPLE TO HELP ONE). Alicia, never wrote down anything from the start. We had to ask for water refills that were served warm, with no ice. We asked for the bill three times and she had to come back and ask us what did we order. It took 40 + minutes to get the bill. We asked for the manager to only have the waitress ignored our request. We had to seek the manager ourselves.

We had to help them WRITE down the orders TWICE. The manager seemed lost and was busy sitting Outside on his cellphone. He previously had to deal with another table complaing. The waitress/bartender that finally gave us our bills slammed the receipts on the table and death glared the whole time while paying. We were meant with an attitude rather than sorry.

We did get a complimentary shot but for consistent mistakes, lack of service and overpriced small portion meals, the restaurant wasn’t worth it. We all left upset, flustered, and emotionally tired.

Completely left disappointed… great way to...

Food was amazing but unfortunately the service was poor. We had reservations and though it was early and very dead they tried to seat us at the bar. After explaining it was just two of us and we have reservations eventually we were allowed to sit at a table. Took the server about 20 min just to come take our order. Laughable that there was only 3 tables including ours and one had already been eating prior to us being seated. We ordered quite a bit of food so to our surprise the table that was beside ours was moved. When the server brought the food there was very little space and the plate was literally hanging off the side of the table. When we asked why the table was moved we were told just in case anyone comes it lmao. (Unbelievable considering how dead it was!!! So dead the bartenders were standing around chatting in their phones.) So I said well there’s not much space and then we were told by the server that she had to speak with the manager 🙄. After nearly eating half our meal the table was moved back. I’ve attached a photo of how dead it was. I’m from Toronto but I visit Montreal often to see my sister and we like to go out and eat. First time here at this restaurant and fair to say I wouldn’t come back because of the...

We ended up at Jiao dim sum bar at 11pm after a waitress recommended it as a great spot for late night food. It was busy from the second we got in but the staff were super kind and helped our group of 4 get seats. Once seated Marco the Bartender and man serving us introduced himself and came of as genuine warm and inviting. He helped us order and choose drinks. I ordered an off menu drink and marco was happy to make it "clover club" told him the ingredients and made it perfectly and even said " i don't know if its up to your standards so if not its on me". It was perfect and we ordered more. Marco was also handling orders from an entire bar with 100+ people with other staff but still he always checked up on us and never had a bad attitude once. The food was amazing, we ended up ordering half the menu twice as we were shocked at the flavours and quality. The vibe was also crazy fun with a DJ playing classic and new hiphop tracks back to back with perfect transitions which isn't easy for hiphop. Over all Marco and the staff including the kitchen and the DJ made a simple meal and a drink into an experience and night to remember. One of our...

Have been wanting to go here forever and I am quite disappointed. To start off we got there at 8:15 and it was completely empty, I later came to the conclusion that it only got busy the later it got. We got sat at the only secluded spot in the restaurant. We all got plates to share. We ordered the fried calamari, chinatown crispy shrimp, edamame, beef gyoza, beef & broccoli, chicken wings and the filet mignon chow mein. Everything was very hit or miss. The fried calamari tasted like fish with a super thick coat of batter. It just did not taste like squid at all. The shrimp also had the exact same taste, I find. The beef and broccoli was good, alongside the chicken wings and edamame which were amazing. The beef gyoza was meh. The filet mignon chow mein could’ve been good, but the meat tasted extremely strange. It got busier and busier as the night progressed. In terms of service, it was just ok. Would not come back

Thank you to Time Out Magazine for letting us locals know about this cool promotion on FB [and to my neighbor who gave me the heads up]. With so many small businesses struggling these days, especially in the hospitality industry, great see to them promoting a local business trying to get their name out there and stay afloat. Free food is always a smart draw for getting new clients but lets be honest free gen tao for the masses is not a cheap promotion to run. All this to say thank you to the owners of a joint I've walked by dozens of times and never visited for putting this promo together. The gen tao was good but if I call in to order it in the future I'll ask them to make it extra spicy. I suspect they went easy on the chili to not scare anyone off trying their menu out for the first time. I'll be back. Merry Christmas.
