I’ve been to Mythos before and I have to say this time I am utterly DISGUSTED with this restaurant. Last Saturday was my mother’s birthday, who happened to beat cancer. Even though she doesn’t like to go out much, she agreed as I convinced her she’d like it. We should have gone elsewhere or stayed home. The guy, who we assume is the manager, sat us down. Then my mother and I just waited, and waited…and waited. Not only that but every single waiter looked straight at us with their air of condescendence walking past us. I didn’t know we were “invisible” to be ignored like that, because as far as I’m concerned, we’re labeled “VISIBLE minorities” for a reason. We sat, being ignored, observing the waiters just standing, talking amongst each other, and catering attentively to the other customers (it was early evening so they were NOT busy). The manager walks by and sees us just sitting there and asks if we’ve been served. I reply curtly that no, they keep on ignoring us. He goes to the front and starts reprimanding the waiters to finally have some goof come in to take our order. At this point the blatant discrimination affected our appetite and my mom was PISSED, and rightfully so. I’m pretty sure had the manager not come by, we’d still be waiting to be served. But that’s not the most blatant thing. It’s one thing to have the waiters begrudgingly serve us (I guess we didn’t have money to pay the damn meal so why bother, correct?), but it’s another things to see them being extremely sweet and cordial to ALL the other tables (coming over several times, offering coat check, making jokes) who happened to be white. I am utterly DISGUSTED. My mom was visibly upset. It was her day and we had to finish the day with this garbage. There was no point of even telling them it was my mother’s birthday with their reprehensible behaviour. Our waiter noticed our discontent and offered a measly baklava on the house at the very end. That doesn’t change the course of the evening. If you are to hire prejudiced Neanderthals as waiters, then so be it. To all people with the slightest melanin in their skin, don’t bother going to Mythos. It’s all good if you go with a group of friends and you’re the “token”. If you happen to go with your family, expect to be treated like a third class citizens, as it bothers them to have surpassed the quota of minorities they allow to enter their establishment. If the owner happens to read this, I suggest some sensitivity training for your Neanderthal uncouth waiters, that is IF you want to be a respectful establishment. No one is forcing you to be a respectable, open-minded and decent establishment. Then, when we left, NOW they decided to notice us and say goodbye. We walked past and did not reply. I’ve lived in Asia, South and North America, and been to Europe so I am used to how people will react to me. I am well experienced to discern situations before calling out discrimination. I think I’ve eaten at enough establishments. THIS takes the cake. I truly hope none of your prejudiced waiters ever experience how they have made us feel last weekend. You may not care how you treat people but the people you have disdain for, they come to your damn establishment for a reason. NEVER again. I don’t need to suggest your restaurant to people anymore. You can can cater to your OWN kind, as you’ve certainly shown us you’re too good for my measly nig*er...
Read moreMusic was too loud!!! Food and service were great but no one was able to carry on a conversation with people at their own table. Speakers blaring overhead as we were all plugging our ears and shaking our heads in disbelief. It quite literally made me ill as I got a massive headache which in turn went straight to my stomach and made me extremely nauseous…ruined the whole evening. Everyone at our table decided to leave after a while because it was just that unbearable. There were other areas in the restaurant where it wasn’t as loud but if you are seated anywhere near the ‘dance floor’ or next to the where the band plays, you will be unable to carry a conversation without screaming at each other. Can’t believe that no one has raised this issue with them as it literally drove us out the door way earlier than we would have liked. This morning we all woke up with ringing in our ears and my husband can’t hear out of one ear. Is this normal? I’ve been to several concerts in my life, mostly rock and heavy metal, and last night was worse since the sound has no one to escape to except straight into your brain! Some of us with the Apple Watch were getting warnings about the decibels at 108 being damaging!! No kidding!! It’s really too bad but we will never be returning there again so long as they continue to blast that music the way they do. And by the way, it was at its loudest when the live band was playing. When they played other music from playlists, it was still loud but not as much. Advice to the restaurant owners; better to lower the volume and keep your customers than to quite literally blow us out the door.
Also, the overall layout should be reconfigured. It’s poorly designed. The band and music should be at the very back wall and a space left for dancing over there. It is very hard to get to and from the table, the washroom, outdoors, etc., once people start dancing as the dance floor is right where you come in and out of, in a tight space. Had trouble getting back to my own table after using the washroom. This would be disastrous if there was an emergency. It’s like a cave down there which can be charming but in this case, it’s just dangerous. Someone needs to rethink the layout and the overall customer experience if you expect people to be returning customers. The vast majority of our large group will not be going back again....
Read moreDecent supper-club type of resto, but not impressive. Expensive and over valued menu items. I'm not sure if I'll ever go again, but if i do it's mainly because of the live music....but even then it isn't awesome (although a few years prior, the music was amazing when i went).
In summary, expect to pay big and receive little. You need to go there with a humbled mindset, in order to enjoy your evening, otherwise you'll end up leaving a poor Google review haha.
The good: live greek music; authentic dishes with nice flavors; cute and warm ambiance; friendly and warm staff (not all).
The bad: crowded table layouts; tiny dance area that's also inside a high traffic zone; small portions for what you pay (appetizers and mains); expensive wine-per-glass vs per bottle (forcing you to buy a bottle); lax service (you need to be patient) (he didn't offer coffee with the dessert, and didn't seem to care when asked about it).
Despite the bads, my family and I left very pleased and generally satisfied. We're not penny crunchers, so we're only slightly disappointed in the high menu cost.
Try it for yourself and...
