Visit: June 2024
I found this place on a whim and it became on of the favorites of my trip. It was a very "mom & pop" type of cafe. The staff was extremely kind and welcoming, and I felt very "at home" there. I was treated exceptionally during my time there, with great recommendations for desserts and savory food. The Boccancini trio was delightful. The, who I believe to be the owner, had blended some fresh spinach soup for the soup of the day, and called me over to sample some. He also gave me a fresh raspberry tart.
The trio was definitely worth it, as the soup was superb. The spinach soup was creamy, smooth, and extremely rich and flavourful. The panini was great as well, though I wish there was a bit more cheese in it. It paired very well with the soup. The owner reminded me to grab my drink before I left as well.
The tart, next to the soup, was the star for me. It was crispy on the sides and bottom, but extremely soft on the top and inside. I believe its made from almonds. It was perfect in terms of sweetness, and I found myself savouring every bite. I had to come back again to try the blueberry one before I left.
Also before I left, the owner came out and said goodbye to me personally. All of the staff there was so warm and inviting and ill definitely return if I get...
Read moreSmall and cozy bakery. I visited a couple times around 10 am on weekdays and things were either out or running pretty low, so get there early for the best selection! The owner is really friendly and even recommended that I had to reheat one of the items to eat it at its best since I was taking it to-go, so you know this place puts a lot of care into what they make. I got the bretonne framboise, the brioche, and the chocolatine.
Bretonne framboise: Really delicious. The raspberries in it were plentiful and delicious, and it had a nice crust outside and crumbly but buttery interior.
Chocolatine: The outside was wonderfully crispy and flaky, and the inside was soft, though I wish it were a bit more airy. There was an abundant amount of chocolate though, and the chocolate itself was top-notch, semi-sweet and really smooth.
Brioche: I can't get over how GOOD this brioche was. Unbelievably soft and fluffy with a rich, buttery taste, and it had these crispy strips on top that added a great texture. This might just linger in my memory forever. Highly recommend getting this if you can only get one thing from here.
I loved everything I got! Would absolutely get their other things if I can get there...

My recommendation at this location: croissant & coffee, small tartlets, baguettes, mixed breads, quiche lorraine.
Great respect for this small, fine family business, where the boss himself is still responsible for the freshness and quality every day. As an aside, it's worth mentioning that he is a French master baker and learnt his trade at a French bakery school.
To be honest, I wouldn't have expected this in Montreal. That's why I'm still completely blown away. So my definite recommendation for this authentic bakery! Praise for the customer friendliness and warmth with which every customer is served :)
If you like breakfast, it's important to arrive early because the croissants are usually sold out by 10.00 am! As a small consolation - the coffee always has a nice crema ;) ;)
PS: Who doesn't know it from Starbucks and other coffee shops - good coffee, mediocre pastries a little service and overpriced. If you're not happy with that, you'd better not come...
