We booked this hotel via Trailfinders in the UK and were totally taken in by the photos online expecting a chic boutique style elegant hotel. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. Some might call it shabby chic but I would call it just shabby! |Having looked at the photos of the interior ie breakfast lounge, gym and queen bedroom (similar to the one we stayed in) on their website I could be forgiven that we were in a different hotel or the photos were completely out of date. It may be that the suites were in good condition having been renovated but I didn't see these.|Overall the room and adjacent corridors were very tired with stains on the carpet. Wires hanging from ceilings and holes in walls. The bathroom door was only about 2 feet in width and I would comment that larger people would struggle to even manoeuvre their way in and out and that's without attempting to sit on the toilet!|Bedroom had a musty smell to it. Big stain on carpet on entering and paint peeling from bathroom walls. Bathroom fittings were tarnished and all needed replacing. The A/C unit was old and was either on or off as control didn't work.|Breakfast was very uninspiring with a small dining area to sit. Paper cups provided for breakfast.|There are no lifts whatsoever in the hotel or from outside. We struggled with our cases up the front of the building whilst one of the staff just watched me! He was then asked by the receptionist to carry one of the cases to our room. It's a complete rabbit warren of corridors and you can clearly see that it was originally separate houses that have now been combined. There's no flow and we were constantly confused as to where we were in the corridors. |The sauna was very small, 4 people would have made a crowd and you had to go down and turn it on about an hour before you wanted to use it, consequently it didn't really work.|On a plus note the bathroom towels were clean and fresh and beds were actually quite comfortable and we did sleep relatively well. Our queen room was located on a side street and was fairly quiet with no real traffic noise. Location not bad with about a 35 min walk to downtown Montreal.|We were booked in for 2 nights but decided to leave after 1 and move to something more modern for our last night in Canada. Unfortunately we couldn't get a refund but I have informed our travel agent and they are offering us some vouchers for compensation.|If money was spent and the entire hotel was renovated as shown on the photos of the suites it could be a fabulous elegant boutique hotel but not in its...
Read moreChateau Versailles Hotel may have been a gem at a point with all their awards from 10+ years ago, but don’t get fooled by the photos, as even their deluxe king room with fire place is not as it used to be. (Photos probably taken many years ago). From check in the room was fairly dirty, a lot to stains, and the smell was not clean. I had raised the concern and requested another room but was told everything was full at both their hotels for the duration of my 4 night stay and the front staff didn’t give much care for my concern for the rooms cleanliness. There was a small nespresso machine which I enjoyed and the breakfast did the job, otherwise it was fairly disappointing. The room is trying to keep a Montreal classic look in some ways, but with a mostly renovated bathroom, a large tv and a nespresso, it seems like they can’t choose between a modern contemporary look or preserve its original roots with having old beat up stained carpet, furniture, walls and a thermostat that’s wired backwards with “sharpie” to indicate to use it in reverse (still never really figured out either thermostat in the small room). I will also note the bathroom door frame is very small to fit through, as a 5’10” man, I can’t imagine for anyone with a bigger frame than I to safely fit through the doorway. Coincidentally I ended up breaking my toe while entering my small room washroom, as the door couldn’t even open all the way in the washroom, so my foot caught the door itself. After breaking my toe, I had my fiancée request just some tape (scotch or anything) from the front reception staff, so I could tape my toe to protect it better, but there was little effort or concern made from the staff and pointed her to speak to the building handyman to see if he could help out?? I didn’t know guests are directed to speak to hotel handyman. Luckily he provided me with a piece of tape which helped my aching toe. Throughout my stay I saw guests at the front reception regularly complaining about issues with their rooms, clogged pipes, poor booking coordination, cleanliness, it’s hard to boast their positive aged reviews from 10+ years ago when in the modern day plenty of guests and I had so many valid complaints about their stay at Chateau...
Read moreVery old hotel with no elevators. I knew that when I booked it, but did not think it would be this rundown based on other reviews. There were lots of stains on the carpet and part of the carpet in the original room I was put in was wet. There was no air conditioning and only a tiny opening at the very top of the window to let in fresh air/a breeze, so rooms got quite warm. The room description said the bed was a queen, but it was just a double (and an uncomfortable double, not a great mattress, like sleeping on a bag of rocks). The toilet in the washroom in the original room I was assigned just kept running and when I asked to be moved to another room because it was so noisy they said they could not because they were fully booked. When the maintenance person could not fix the constantly running toilet, they did manage to move me to a smaller room (definite a downgrade). The bathroom was tiny, the door was half the size of a normal door (see photo with my size 9 shoe on the floor for reference, my shoulders would not actually fit through the door and I had to turn slightly sideways to get into that bathroom) and when you sat on the toilet your knees touched the tub. In the morning, the hair dryer in my new room stopped working. I (eventually) was able to get them to bring up a plug in hair dryer, but the button on the phone in my room for the front desk also didn’t work so I had to use the button for a wake-up call to talk to the hotel staff. When I asked if there would be a rate reduction for the smaller room, I was told it was the same category of room and was the same price. When I checked out, the fellow at the reception desk was having trouble processing my bill and said he would email it to me shortly. Six hours later I still had not received an email with the bill and had to call to ask them to send it (it did arrive after the phone call). For a little bit more money, there are MUCH nicer hotels in the same area. This one is very rundown (many things seemed to be broken or in the process of breaking) and it needs some serious improvements made to it. I would not recommend this hotel...
