I am a broke college student with naturally very thick hair that is my pride and joy. Had always kept my hair super long and suddenly had an urge to cut it short. I looked everywhere pretty worried about getting someone that would do a sloppy job, and everything seemed very out of my budget, until I found this place and scheduled an appointment for the same day at 7pm (are salons usually open at this time??). Konstantine is a Russian hairdresser with 30+ years of experience, according to his colleague, and a very kind man. He washed and combed my messy hair with the patience and care of a father and made very sure he was cutting it exactly the way I wanted, checking the length with me all the time and looking at my Pinterest reference pictures throughout the entire process. He didn't speak much English but did his best to give me all the advice to maintain my hair with the volume I like. Also, make sure to bring plenty of pictures for him to know what you're looking for. At some point he accidentally cut his finger, went to care for it very quickly, put on a rubber glove and kept going, even after I insisted on him taking a break. Basically, now my hair is absolutely perfect for a fraction of the price I would've paid somewhere else. My friend went with me, also cut her super long hair into a short 20's bob and left pleased. She said he took a bit more from the length than she expected but she was still super happy with it. Don't know his name though. Look up the student discounts and trust them, they'll...
Read moreDisappointed by Unprofessional Payment Practices and Delayed Appointment at Slij
I recently visited Slij for the second time, and unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. My appointment was scheduled for 1:00 PM, but my hairdresser, Karen, didn’t begin until 1:25 PM, which was frustrating and felt unprofessional.
While the haircut itself was fine, the payment process was where things went downhill. After my haircut, I asked to use the swipe machine, only to be told they didn’t have one. When I mentioned that I had made an Interac transfer on my last visit, I was told the Interac system wasn’t working and that I’d have to pay by cash. There is an ATM inside the store, which made the situation seem odd, and it felt like they were asking for cash to avoid paying taxes.
I ended up walking 1km both ways to get cash. When I returned, I noticed another customer sitting next to me had just paid by E-transfer. Confused, I went outside to confirm with him, and he assured me that he had used E-transfer for his payment. I then asked for the Interac payment ID again since I had saved it from my previous visit.
It became clear that they were randomly asking some customers to pay in cash, which felt inconsistent and unprofessional. This lack of transparency and the delay in starting my appointment left me extremely frustrated and disappointed.
Unfortunately, I won’t be returning and would advise others to...
Read moreOkay, I went there 4 times.
There is a guy and a woman, the first time the guy did me the haircut and it was okay.. I was satisfied.. Just a normal haircut since I don't ask for anything complicated !
The second time the women did the haircut and it was extremely bad.
The third time it was the guy, and it was good ! He know show to cut ! he has the TASTE and knows how to balance between the sides !
The fourth time, and my last time with this saloon, was the woman.
First of all, her breath stinks ! She smokes alot and you can smell her smoky breath when she gives you a haircut which makes me like aaaaaaah.
The haircut was the worst haircut I have ever had in my life ! I don't even know how she did it.
The hair is not balanced at all. I can't even brush it, I have areas bigger than areas and she made me feel bald from the sides ! She rushes the haircut in order to go out to smoke ! She does anything just to get the money and go light up her cigs.
Just a TIP: If you are a man and want a haircut, go with the guy, he is not the best but he will give you what you want. AVOID...
