So I place an order with the bartender to which he replies are you paying cash? I answered that I was not and he brushed me off with his hand and moved on to the next customer. However, he would take long breaks in between serving people to talk to pretty girls along the bar. I'm not saying you shouldn't do that but there's a time and a place. Then I went to inquire with the staff whether they had an ATM in the bar to which they replied that they do not and they take interac at the bar. So I return to the same bartender and a machine is situated on the bar. I pick up the machine and point to it and he replies again: ONLY CASH! The machine was fully functioning and I'll get to his logic afterwards. Finally I call out to him saying that I want to be served, he comes back and says you're not going to be served acting like that. Five minutes later he returns and says that he almost didn't serve me because I called out to him after 20 Minutes of waiting to be served. So I place my order, get my bill and I give him 0 tip. I'm from Canada, I know the customary tip is 15%. Further, I know that bartenders get taxed 8% on their sales. However, as a customer, I demand a minimum level of service. He did not meet the threshold. He refused to serve me because I was paying debit card and only once I made it clear I was extremely dissatisfied did he serve me and made me feel as though I were lucky to be served. Therefore, he did not deserve one penny of my money. Upon realizing that I did not tip him, he told me that you "HAVE TO tip here." I replied that without service I am not going to tip. It's a business transaction, I am not a charity and I do not offer consideration without any back. Then he said that if I didn't tip I would be ejected and called the bouncer over. I replied that I will leave and did not resist but I want to be reimbursed for my beverages that I would not be allowed to enjoy. He turned away from me and then I explained the situation to the bouncer who would not hear my story and just told me to leave. I was trying to reason with him but he told me that he would forcibly remove me if I do not leave. I asked to speak to his manager and he would not call on her. Luckily the people working at the entrance were extremely helpful and called on their manager. (Considering I have to give this place a one star it goes out to those people because they were awesome). Finally, the manager came and I explained the situation to which she replied regarding the 8% rule and I answered that I know very well but that comes with a minimum standard of service. And she said that the reason he wasn't serving me is because cash is quicker and he wanted to maximize profits. Wait a minute ? I understand from an economical standpoint that is in the benefit of the bar and the bartender but what about the customer? Do we not deserve service when we're the reason this establishment is able to continue to function? The customer is supposed to be accommodated as we are the ones that pay. If they want to run that kind of establishment then there should not be an extra service fee. Finally after discussing this point the manager grudgingly returned my money and failed to apologize. She, like the bartender, made it seem as if I am lucky. All in all I will never go back to this place. And if you choose to please don't pay for service that isn't offered. I have numerous friends in the industry and you would never be ejected from a restaurant for not tipping. I always tip within the 15-25% range and this is the first time I decided not to tip. Neither the bartender nor Reggie's...
Read moreReggie's became quite the establishment. While it is not entirely "my type of bar" (as I'm a dive bar fanatic), the space and the selection is satisfying while the service is more than acceptable.
Disappointingly, I'd only count the products worthwhile while on sale. Otherwise, they are somewhat expensive especially considering they self-identify as a "student bar".
The staff is friendly and there is plenty of seating.
This would be 3.5/5 due to the prices but Yelp's programming is not amazing enough to take into account decimals other than for average reviews.
It's not fantastic but it's not bad. The renovations were, all-in-all, worth it (even if they took a substantial amount of time to come...
Read moreFun space on campus! Super friendly staff. Love the setup with the stage. They have really good fries too 👀 Our student association booked Reggies for our spring banquet. There were complications in the process.. lots of miscommunication and misunderstanding. We got double booked at first, then they said we never asked for food at our event when it was explicitly written in one of our emails to them that we wanted food + drinks. Things worked out at the end. So, good place to hang out, but can be a hassle for coordinating with the staff if you want to have an event. It is easy to book through their website if you’re a student...
