I usually enjoy this cafe. Most of the staff are nice but today (November 15; 6:30 p.m.) I got such rude service from the woman working that I deleted my original positive review.
I ordered a Monster brownie and a medium coffee. You can only see the outside of the cakes in the display counter so I asked her if she had chocolate cheesecake. She said "YES" so I paid for the three items. I brought my coffee to my table.
When I came back, the woman working handed me two plates. The monster brownie was stale around the edges, but I ate it anyways.
When I realized she had given me a chocolate layer cake rather than a chocolate cheesecake, I brought it back to the counter. She said "that is a cheesecake".
I said that it was a chocolate layer cake, and I wanted a chocolate cheesecake. She starts to argue that there is creamcheese between the layers of cake.
I tell her again that I wanted a classic chocolate cheesecake. She then changes her answer to "we don't have chocolate cheesecake" and forces me to take the blueberry cheesecake. She doesn't offer a solution or a refund. I won't be coming back when she's working if I come back at all. About $7 for s piece of cake I can't even finish. I'm disappointed.
Also the padded benches need to be bolted to the wall because they tip forward every time someone gets up which causes pain to anyone with mobility issues or back problems.
The other staff are great, but this experience was very...
Read morePeople who work there discriminate against me. They pretend not to know English in Canada. 10 years ago, I remember going to that cafe many times, and they always spoke English. Montreal has 2 English universities, McGill and Concordia, so it's unacceptable for a Montreal coffee shop that did have English speaking workers in the past not to hire people who speak English today. By the way, I do speak French. I'm the customer and I am paying them (over $20) + a big tip (25+%) though, so I oughta be able to speak any Canadian official language I choose to speak. They either are discriminating against me by not speaking to me personally in English while speaking to other people in English, which seems more likely in Canada. Or, they don't know the main language of Canada in a bilingual city that has 2 English universities including the top Medical school of all of Canada, meaning they are not qualified to have the job. This is completely awful and unacceptable either way. It's a form of abuse and lack of respect for customers that they choose to...

While visiting Montreal and exploring the city, we decided to stop at this cafe to enjoy a warm drink. Two staff members were working: one was very friendly and explained the menu to us in English, while the other gave us strange looks. He proceeded to shush us as if we were inside a library, and, when we were leaving, asked us (and not other guests) to pick up our plates and bring them to him, making us feel like he didn't want to pick up the dishes we left on the table (when other people left their cups on their tables and weren't asked to put them back on the front counter). We also did not see a trash can or any sign indicating that customers need to pick up after themselves. It’s important to note that we were speaking Spanish and are people of color. We felt unwelcome and discriminated against. I regret not spending our...
