I recently checked out Club Soda, a comedy club that's part of the Just for Laughs festival. The tables were set up well & the staff kept the place clean, which is a definite plus. If you're looking for a good spot, get there early - it's first-come, first-served.
The comedians were very professional & delivered solid sets. I appreciated that they didn't shy away from edgy material, but still managed to keep it awkward. The crowd was mature & knew when to laugh & when to keep quiet, which made for a good show.
Overall, Club Soda is a solid spot for comedy. The comedians & staff do their jobs well, & the crowd's generally receptive. It's not super flashy, but it gets the job done. If you're a fan of stand-up & want a good laugh, it's worth checking out. Just don't expect anything too out of the ordinary, it's a tried & true comedy club format.
I'd go back, & I'd recommend it to others. The comedians were funny & the atmosphere was great. Not bad for a night out in Montreal. If you're in the area & looking for some laughs, Club Soda's a...
Read moreThe venue is great, went to see Marianas Trench there and had a blast. The only thing that was extremely annoying was the venue requires you to pay to hang your coats however they only accept cash. I didn't notice this obligation anywhere when buying my tickets, and the fact that they were only accepting cash in an era where most people use PayPass is strange. Not to mention, when we mentioned we didn't know we had to hang up our coats and how we didn't have cash, they basically said "I don't know what to tell you" and refused to let us pass. I had to find a way to put my coat in my bag in order to get into the venue.
I can understand the rule, but I think it should be advertised when buying and receiving the tickets, and they should accept credit/debit cards at the very least for those who don't see the notice. To not offer a solution to scrambling clients and only refuse them entry is not...
Read moreThis was an overall really beautiful venue with great accoutistics, but it was overshadowed by the blatantly racist bartender serving drinks.
I attended an event on August 9 and had to wait for the bartender for 15 minutes while I watched them serve multiple people before me and another patron beside me who was not white. Some customers got two orders in before the bartender even looked at me or made eye contact.
I was shocked that the venue would allow bartenders to ignore customers who are literally trying to give their money to purchase drinks. I did not end up buying any drinks from that bartender (they wouldn't serve me at all or make eye contact despite being in front of them.) I had to go to a separate bartender in the venue in order to get drinks.
My advice if you go to this venue: don't give them more money than you need to because they employ racist bartenders. Stick to...
