The food is incredible. Me and my husband are Peruvian food fans and wherever we travel we try the local restaurants, to remind us of our dating years. The food was a variation of traditional Peruvian that was really well done, something unique that we hadn't tried in more than a decade of sampling Peruvian restaurants. Portions were small, but that's what we expected. That mango chicharrón salad, my dear goodness, it might have been the best chicharrón I have eaten in my whole life.
Unfortunately, the glorious experience of the food was tainted by the atmosphere. Even if we had reservations, we were led to the bar, where I was given a seat at an end and only one of my feet could reach the underneath metal rail, while the other was hanging. My leg hurt by the end of the meal and we had to rush our dinner. I saw a couple of tables still available on the terrace, but we were told only the bar was available. When we left, the tableS (yes, plural) were still available.
The music was incredibly LOUD, YES, VERY LOUD TO THE POINT OF HAVING DIFFICULTY HAVING A CONVERSATION AND WE HAD TO SHOUT AT EACH OTHER, and it was very annoying reggaeton more apt for a dance floor than for drinks with friends while you eat and talk. The food had amazing presentation, or that's what we think, because the inside of the place was very dark and they had this very bright red neon sign making everything very red, so the work spent on the presentation of the food was wasted.
I am sad writing this review, because this is truly a great, innovative approach to Peruvian food. This food is extraordinary, is so well done, with so much craft and attention to detail. We truly loved it, and that's something that doesn't usually happen with us and variations of Peruvian food. Yet, the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired and shows a lack of respect for the food they make. The lighting choice was truly puzzling, honestly, what's the point of investing so much effort into the presentation of food that you can barely see? You can see in the pictures of other reviews how red everything looks here.
I hope that they fix these issues, because the food is truly remarkable. And maybe we are not the target audience of this place, true, but, hey, at least seat people in such a way their legs don't hurt and they have ti...
Read moreGreat food and drinks, absolutely terrible service.
Had reservations at 6:30pm, sat outside on the patio. Water took some time, but not too long. We ordered two cocktails and 5 small plates.
Cocktails came out in a timely fashion, first two plates took maybe 30 minutes. (Octopus and calamari - both very good) Second two plates took another 30 min. (Duck skewers and duck sandwich - both okay and flavorful) Where was our last one? We waited for another 30 min before our waitress came to us and asked if we were waiting on anything else. We had ordered the chicharron and were waiting. She apologized and said that there was an error with the printing machine, so a lot of orders were delayed. Would have been nice to know earlier…! She said that it would probably be another 15 min wait for the food, if that’s too long, we can cancel the order. We were in no rush, so we said we can wait. Fifteen minutes isn’t so bad. We did ask for the check right away since we knew if we let her go, we’d have to wait another 30 min for the check.
Well, we waited another 30 min for the check anyway. She disappeared and didn’t return. When she did, she said she lost our check but can print out another one, as long as we don’t need our receipt, which was fine. We confirmed again that we would like our chicharron and paid for it. We waited a whole hour for it, surely it must be coming out soon. Maybe that was our mistake. Bill taken care of, and she said, “I’ll go check on your chicharron!”
She never came back and it was hard to flag her down. She passed us on multiple occasions to attend to other tables without giving us an update. Another FORTY FIVE minutes passed, and we just gave up. We got up and left because that’s just unacceptable at that point. Maybe we could have been more aggressive in asking about our food, but it shouldn’t have to be that way.
Terrible service, good food and cocktails. Wouldn’t return due to the...
Read moreNestled in the heart of Montreal’s vibrant scene, Tiradito is a gem that perfectly marries the spirit of Peruvian cuisine with the charm of a local bistro. My view of this establishment, where the duck sandwich butifarra, ceviche classique, and anticucho, is that it is nothing short of culinary artistry.
Imagine taking your seat where the ambiance instantly sets in, surrounded by the buzz of spirited conversations and the rhythmic allure of upbeat music. It's here that you're not just a spectator but a part of the experience as dishes like the ceviche classique—a symphony of fresh seafood, citrus, and herbs—are meticulously assembled right before your eyes. Each bite is a testament to the fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors that characterize Peruvian fare.
The butifarra, a sandwich filled with succulent duck, is an encounter of both texture and taste, leaving an indelible impression on the palate. As for the anticucho, it’s a dish that speaks of tradition, its flavors intensified by the grill and served with a side of culinary heritage.
And let’s not forget the Pisco sour. Crafted with precision, this cocktail is a balance of tart and sweet, the froth resting atop like a cloud of perfection—a must-try for any connoisseur.
Service at Tiradito goes above and beyond, where every patron is treated with utmost care and attention. The staff, knowledgeable and passionate, ensures every aspect of the meal is enjoyed to the fullest.
