The Courtyard Montreal Downtown by Marriott is a classy, clean, and well-situated hotel with very good rooms, service and amenities (including a spacious and decently equipped fitness facility, which is hard to find in a hotel, especially close to the Old Montreal area). After staying here recently for four nights in July 2025, as well as for three nights back in August 2022, I can say that the Courtyard Montreal Downtown has met or exceeded expectations each time.
The lobby is clean and elegant, with a pleasant aroma. The staff were prompt and attentive, and fluently bilingual. Arriving 25 minutes early, the staff kindly proceeded to complete the check-in and requested a rush on room preparations. I had booked a king suite and was in the room by 3:05 p.m. The staff were warm, gracious, and efficient, and their service was worthy of the finest hotels.
The parking was a breeze. There was ample underground parking in an attached garage and it was well-lit, clean and easy to maneuver. It felt safe and secure. It was easy to access. It didn't take long to travel between the garage and the hotel room, which was convenient. It was easy to get to/from the hotel from the downtown roadways.
In July 2025, parking was approximately $36 per day, which was reasonable given the quality, convenience, and the scarcity of good parking in this area of Montreal.
The king suite was exceptionally spacious and comfortable, and it was perfect for a four-night stay. There was so much room, plenty of drawers and closet space, a safe, a steamer, a sofa, and a little sink with mini-fridge. We had large windows that offered views of Rene Levesque Blvd., which always seemed to have people and cars moving 24 hours a day. (At times, the window views could be more entertaining than television.) It made for a good home away from home.
The routes from the hotel to the downtown core and into nearby Old Montreal are easy to navigate and felt reasonably safe. There's no shortage of good people going about their daily lives for business and pleasure. It''s so easy to walk around in Montreal. It all seems to be within 20 minutes walk of this hotel, and usually less. There's inevitably some exposure to downtown street life that isn't featured on tourism sites, but there are many pedestrians on the decently lit streets and the police had a low-key but noticeable presence. Despite the problems you see and hear about in major cities, we felt safe at this hotel and using it as our base of operations at all hours. We often found ourselves walking back to the hotel as midnight approached.
The fitness facility is good. It's quite spacious. It's clean. There's a cold water fountain. There are panoramic windows with good views of the Montréal skyline. There's lots of cardio equipment. There's some weight training equipment, too, enough for a decent workout while traveling. A cable machine. A rack of dumbells. A few solid benches. Several stations for abs, legs, and chest exercises. Not bad for a hotel. Didn't use the pool, but it looked nice.
We had one minor "problem" during our stay, and it was with the air conditioner. It was amazingly brief. I called the front desk to report it and a technician appeared at the door in just a few minutes. He had the AC working in no time, and he was also quite personable. What can I say? The response and service was excellent.
When planning this trip, other hotels in the immediate area were charging more and offering less. We're glad we went with this hotel, which had everything we needed and provided it just as well as some of their upscale (and pricier) competitors.
The Courtyard Montreal Downtown provided an excellent stay during a busy time of summer for the second time. Based on that, we'll be sure to come back for a...
Read moreI am staying at the hotel right now, and decided to eat at its restaurant, Darlington Boire & Manger, since it was conveniently located and the menu was appealing. We were a family of 4 with two girls. My first question was: do you have a kids menu? And the server said: NO, I’m sorry. So my husband and I ordered both the most expensive plate on their menu, the 8oz angus beef steak, plus mac and cheese plus 4 glasses of prosecco. My daugthers, ages 5 and 9, had nothing there to eat, so we ordered McDonalds for them. We were enjoying the evening and the server was really nice. Then a gentleman came over to our table and asked us how the food was, and I said it was great. And then he said that the restaurant did not allow food ordered from outside, but because they saw they were children, they were OK. I mentionned to him the fact that they did not have a kids menu for them to pick from, otherwise we would have ordered chicken tenders from them instead of from UberEats. And then he left. When our server came with our second glasses, I just started a conversation with her, and told her: this gentleman came now and told us that the restaurant didnt allow customers to have food here from another place, but you guys dont have a kids menu, and her answer was: yes ma’am, no restaurant allows you to order food from another place and eat it there. If you wanted to do that, you should have stay in your room and order in-room dining. That was so so rude from the server. I really didnt expect that answer from her. She actually didnt show up to our table again. Two other different servers came after that to ask us if we wanted any dessert and to bring us the check. Our original server never came back to our table. The food was really good, the server had been nice at the beginning, but the treatment and the comments we received was certainly very very disappointing. We had ordered expensive plates for both adults, we ordered drinks, we repeated drinks, we decided to spend our money at the hotel because we liked it, and not to mention that my family and I are Marriot Platinum Elite member. That is certainly not the kind of service and treatment I expected from the server, from the restaurant or the hotel. After that, I paid my bill, I left $0 tip, and went to the reception to ask for the manager. And to my surprise, the manager was exactly the gentleman who had come to our table to tell me I was not supposed to have food from outside. So, horrible customer service received from the restaurant and from the hotel, if he was the manager. He should have been happy that as a customer I had chosen to eat in place and no elsewhere. I’m staying two more days at this hotel, and no worries, I will not eat food from outside there again. I will actually eat and spend my money somewhere else. They will probably have a kids menu for my girls and will value us as customers. This is not a kids friendly place, and certainly not a customer-driven place either. If I was the restaurant owner, I would pay attention and would treat well customers that are ordering from my restaurant and who are leaving their money in my business. I barely spent $20 in two “outside” happy meals for my starving girls and instead spent $200 dollars in two adults dining and drinking in this restaurant. I would have eaten there tomorrow as well, but now I won’t. I will not allow them to discriminate or disrespect me or my children like that again. If my stay wasn't paid already, I would probably switch hotel too. And I wont definitely be back either to this restaurant or this hotel ever again....

We would stay a weekend in a suite at this property & while there were positives our overall stay was a huge disappointment!
Upon arrival there was no signage for parking etc. My husband went inside while I waited in the car at the curb front.
Upon inquiry as to the parking the attendant did not answer the question and took the name and proceeded to check us in. There was no welcome for being a Titanium Bonvoy member & only after she had completely checked us in, did she explain that parking required a room key and was located vaguely in the back corner pointing to the outside door. We proceeded to drive around the block to the rear of the hotel where again there was no parking signage and got lucky with there only being one door to parking underground!
The second floor one bed room suite was very spacious with high ceilings and well appointed in a newly renovated experience way, however there were no USB charging ports bedside or otherwise and a number of the electrical outlets also did not function!
There were desks in both the main room and the bedroom as well the main room featured a dining table, microwave and mini-fridge!
The spacious bathroom featured a shower and a tub that when filled featured water with a deep blueish tinge. There was no soap by the sink and we had to request a soap bar to wash our hands and then again, another call for shampoo in the shower which was empty after only one of us showered!
Our first night was sleepless and left us both with back pain. The mattress had dips and large sagging area’s that contributed to a week-long period of discomfort and sent us both for physio treatments in the weeks after check out!
To add to the distress of sleeplessness and back pain we had to make four calls and request a manager to get the mattress exchanged!
When the housekeeping manager finally arrived just before noon hour, she claimed that no one had told her about the mattress……. Her body language and attitude indicated differently!
The new mattress was a huge improvement and we were able to get an hour or so rest prior to our afternoon function which was now limited in enjoyment due to both our back discomforts!
The room being on the 2nd floor overlooking Rene Leveque meant we could hear sirens, noisy exhaust and other loud noises throughout the night which contributed to a less than restful sleep the 2nd night!
While the hotel and room has good potential the response and concern of staffs towards the sleepless night and mattress issue is not what one would expect towards guests in any room let alone a suite.
When spending the night on a sub par mattress and the guests are then required to seek medical help to rectify the damage this should not be ok with any guest and certainly not with the hotel which treated our concern as an inconvenience.
The manager never even bothered to follow up to make sure the switched mattress was ok or apologize for the sleepless night and sore backs!
We were not impressed with the lack of recognition for being Loyal Titanium Bonvoy members and our loyalty to the Marriot brand and for these reasons our stay was...
