Update: I was there yesterday to buy computer components. I am updating my previous five-star review as Canada Computers didn't respond to my e-mail. I went there at around 3:45pm, and I left at 6:30pm. My experience at first was pretty good, but turned bad pretty quickly. They had some GPUs in stock and the prices were decent. Once I picked up all the components, problems started. First of all, once they "put in the order", they told me that I needed to wait 10 minutes for their system to approve it. 10 minutes quickly became an hour, as apparently they made a mistake when they finalized the "order." I didn't say anything. Anyways, at around 5:20pm, they told me I could pay. I had to pay with two cards as my spending limit wouldn't be enough for all the components. I've done this before at Canada Computers so I didn't think it would be a problem. I paid with the first card just fine, but then the employee made a mistake and finalized the payment process without me paying for the rest. Another hour passed by, and they fixed this too. Again, I didn't complain in store because I just wanted to get the components and leave. I paid for the rest, but the employee made another mistake and apparently used another employee ID to charge me for the rest, so the system kept giving them an error. It was around 6pm when this happened. 15-20 minutes later, the employee just told me I could take my stuff and that they would send me the invoice later. I've been waiting for more than two hours at this point, and I didn't want to stay any longer so I just left. And I didn't want to complain in store as it seemed like there was nothing they could/would do. I kept saying "the employee" but there were multiple employees that helped me. I don't know any of their names, but the person with a beard (Max) as well as the person that "recently moved from Ottawa" have been really helpful and apologetic. Even they were shocked that I had been in the store for that long. However, it was frustrating that no one could help me and that I was stuck at the store for more than two hours, and I had already paid after the first hour. I needed to go to dinner later that night that I had to cancel because I didn't think it would take this long to buy computer components. It was also very frustrating that there wasn't a supervisor on site that could fix these issues faster, because it seemed like there was one "honest mistake" after another. And I genuinely believe they were honest mistakes, but they were done at every single step of the process which resulted in a horrible, frustrating experience. There is clearly a lack of training as well as compassion with some of the employees. As someone who upgrades computer components quite often, I don't think I could go through such an experience again. I can't recommend Canada Computers to anyone either.
Went there for the first time about a month ago to build a computer. The rep went above and beyond, and he knew exactly what he was doing when he was building the PC. Their store design is weird though, with lockers at the entrance to put your backpack in. Being a rather small retailer, I think they need to be more cautious about theft. Their motto is Proudly Canadian, and it clearly shows when you shop there! Happy to know that there is an actual store I can go instead of ordering...
Read moreNew store: The new store is right by best buy and it is very nice but the store culture is much the same, IMO. They have a great selection of inventory but the store culture feels snotty, at times. Clerks walk away when you are trying to buy something. They argue with you before they give you your points. Point system doesn't include computer purchase go figure. 500 points = $5.00
Old store: The store itself seems okay but customer service doesn't build confidence, IMO. I was told if part breaks, specifically the hinge on Gigabyte's Oarus 15P XD (pic below), you have to buy part but they install it under warranty. I did a search on the Oarus 15P XD and didn't find any reviews related to broken hinges, but he seemed to imply that it was a common problem. I think you have to be very careful. The clerk I had 'helping me' was cracking his knuckles, so you felt like you were being mocked. It could be location which is sort of run down right now, which may explain the unpleasantness, IMO. I looked at other locations and some get better reviews and might be higher quality than this one, but they also have disappointed customers there too.
I phoned listed number and I got a cellphone that no one seems to be answering or took time to record an actual message. Store is quite nice though I wouldn't buy a computer from a place that didn't have functioning phone service during business hours. Good selection of computers and adapters but felt very snooty, someone turned sound on super loud as I was trying to talk to salesperson.
When I walked into the store a clerk had their back to the door so I went in other way and instead of being greeted they scolded me for going through wrong door. Off...
Read moreBeen going here for PC parts for a few years now and they're great! The people I usually see working are gamers themselves so they have lots of experience with what I need. They also always seem excited to talk about different games coming out and other relevant topics so it feels really personable. It's not like other big tech chains where it feels like the people working just know what their basic training taught them. They clearly know what they're talking about here and are passionate about it.
They also always have pretty good rotating sales. I've needed a new CPU & motherboard for a long time, and there was almost always a bundle on sale that fit my needs whenever I checked. I recently ordered a CPU/motherboard/ram bundle and was able to pick it up in store the same day. I had to get a new fan at the same time, and the person working was happy to explain what my options were, and why certain fans were better than others for my build. I initially went in planning to get the cheapest fan that'd work for my build, but they talked me into getting an AIO fan. Did they do that to make more money? Maybe, but it was definitely the best choice for me. The CPU I got heats up REALLY quickly, so I think a cheaper fan would have really struggled to keep it at a good temperature. They also warned me about a power supply that I was going to get a few months ago. I didn't realize the brand I was going to get was known to have issues. They warned me right away and recommended another power supply/brand that was a similar price. They didn't have to do that, especially when it didn't mean they were going to make more money recommending another, so I appreciate...
