We went there ordering coffee and some pastry to go. Since we had never been there and we had a young kid, we took a little longer to look around, asking the owner questions etc. After getting the coffee, my son really wanted the yogurt, so we opened the yogurt and fed him there (we were just standing by the bar, not sitting). The whole thing took about 10 min. When we were ready to go, we asked whether we could get some tap water for the baby, the owner gave us water but right afterwards reminded us that next time if we stay we should tip. It came shocking to us. To start with, there is no such a thing as "we should tip". Tips are not mandatory and it is based on good service and food and certainly customers shouldn't be "reminded/pushed" to give. Secondly we did not stay at all. We didn't not use the table or the chairs, we simply stood there and gave yogurt to a baby. He did not make a mess or threw tantrums that effect other customers. There was only other family in there at the time and we certainly didn't take up the space of the cafe. Finally, we spent almost $40 there purchasing different stuff. Not just a quick coffee. I certainly don't think I need to pay 15% of that just so I can stand there for 10 min. I don't think I'll go back there anymore unfortunately. To be fair, the pastry was good, just the tip part left a bitter taste...
Read moreIt is with a great deal of sadness that I write this review for what used to be one of my absolute favorite places for a Colombian breakfast. Advertised as a bakery, the star of the breakfast menu has always been the tamales, which we ordered. After a 40-minute wait, we were served a tamal that was disappointingly watery and still frozen in the middle. Beyond the main course, the state of the bakery itself has progressively declined. There is no longer any fresh bread; instead, the selection is limited to pandebonos and almojabanas that are baked on-site from a frozen state. The empanadas are still available but at an outrageous price of $6.95 CAD a piece, or three for $20, which is simply not justifiable for what an empanada is.
On a positive note, the coffee was good, and the employee working was very kind and understanding. He genuinely tried to compensate for what appears to be a progressive decline in the quality of their products. It's a shame to see a place that once had so much to offer...
