We booked our reservation for 4 with the Terra after looking at many restaurants for a special dinner. We had all agreed the Tomahawk steak special for 2, being offered on their website, was the way to go.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our meal. When the salads (2 person serving) were delivered to the table, our server presented one salad with onions and one without. We had not asked for any exemptions to be made. We told him that and there was no offer to return the salads or even to bring some onion to remedy the situation. He did tell us he was very tired, though. With our salad, there was a very undercooked portion of squash, skin intact. We did not have sharp knives to attempt to cut the skin off or to even cut into bite size pieces. Ultimately, the squash was left on the plate.
Both couples ordered our steaks medium rare, and our server told us that’s how chef preferred to cook the steaks. Sadly, when the steaks arrived, one steak was cooked just under medium rare and the other was just over. Disappointing to be sure and to add to our disappointment, the steaks were not presented as advertised. The special was a “Tomahawk Steak Special for 2”. The pictures on Terra’s website clearly show a Tomahawk steak with bone. The definition of a Tomahawk is “a rib eye beef steak specifically cut with at least five inches of rib bone left intact”. Our steaks were just a slab of under seasoned meat (NO bone), already cut and placed on the plate. In attempting to season our steaks, we had to remove the top of the salt shaker as the salt was too coarse to be able to shake it out. The portion size of both the salad and entrée were ample, however, the only bright spot of our less than stellar meal was the au jus that accompanied the meat and the potatoes, which were both very tasty.
Based on the website, this “Tomahawk” special was only being offered from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, and we adjusted our original reservation to take advantage of said special. However, while we were there, many other tables were ordering and receiving the “special” well after 7:00. Had we known, we could have ordered any time; we would have retained our preferential time. Overall, we feel the advertising was misleading and added to our frustration.
We can confidently say that the Terra restaurant is not a place we would go out of our...
Read moreDisappointing Experience – Style Over Substance How does $86 sound for a tofu lentil main, two appetizers, and a berry spritz—with an automatic 18% tip included? Not great, especially when the food and experience fall flat.
The space is aesthetically modern but oddly laid out. It feels more like a motel lobby than a welcoming restaurant. The bar sits awkwardly at the entrance, and the dining area tucked behind it lacks warmth. There’s even a private dining space that’s often cordoned off—likely to avoid the look of empty tables.
I visited for an early 5 PM dinner based on a recommendation from my hotel (which I now suspect has some arrangement with the place). I ordered the red lentil tofu and two appetizers. The tofu arrived clearly reheated—possibly microwaved—and was unlike any tofu dish I’ve had, in the worst way. The two accompanying carrot sticks were badly charred and borderline inedible. Honestly, I was shocked they served it like that.
Jasper surely has better dining options. Do yourself—and your wallet—a favor and eat...
Read moreThis is an expensive restaurant. Extra expensive if you are a tourist. But it is definitely NOT worth it. The toast of the bone marrow was burned, the side of the mushrooms tasted burned too and were over fried so zero taste (just fried). And the service was terrible. They put a plate in our table, said to keep it (mind you this was wrong order, we did not order it) so we touched it, it is in front of our face, then someone came and took it to another table for them to eat?! The place is too cold so you will have to wear a jacket (tons of people with parkas inside and it is summer) the chairs are uncomfortable. Sure this is a mountain town so we did not expect 5 star dine from Paris but the bakery and Syrah’s restaurant in town were good. So, no excuse for this. Bad experience. Waiters are terrible ditzy and forget to bring you spoons, the bill or whatever you ask. You will have to ask 3...
