I miss Rick (the previous and ORIGINAL owner). I have been going to Substantial since I was in elementary school (Notre Dame). This was always the place I went to get a good quality, DELICIOUS assorted sub. I just recently went in to experience the new shop, and the assorted sub was very...off. The cheese is creamy now and almost sour tasting, the meat quality has definitely gone downhill (I know that Rick's meats were also processed, but he used higher quality meats which he sliced on his own at the store). I actually pulled most of the meat off. The bread to meat/filling ratio was EXTREMELY off. The bread was unnecessarily large for the amount of filling. It was also almost $3.00 more. Rick's assorted 12" was only $5 for the longest time! Then it went up to $6 in the most recent years. My 12" assorted last week was almost $9, which would have been completely fine if it tasted GOOD. Terrible subs and terrible service. From out of town and asked for Italian sausage subs and they send 2 cold cut subs. Apparently it’s our fault we ordered it and they don’t have it , but they never told us they don’t have it they just assumed what we wanted.they also put onions on a sub that we asked for no onions, and didn’t put mayo on one of the subs and only 2 slices of pickles when we asked for extra. Won’t be ordering from here again and I’ll be telling friends and family...

We have been loyal customers for many years. Subs always delicious and we would recommend to all our friends. This I will not be doing anymore. My husband ordered a pizza sub that came with NO SAUCE. My assorted sub was not appetizing. The lettuce was old, sour and bitter. My husband actually had to remind the girl to put the meat on, because she was just about to close up the sub with just lettuce,tomato and cheese. So miss the old owner. Will not be back...
