I am a consumer of Vietnamese cuisine. I absolutely love it and have tried restaurants around Canada and the world.
So, I consider myself 'knowledgeable ' of how the food should be presented, prepared, and taste.
Unfortunately, I found this place to be one of the worst Vietnamese Restaurants in Vancouver; I ordered Pork Vermicelli. It was borderline disgusting. After my visit here today, you couldn't give me a free meal to eat here again.
Here is what I did not enjoy... and after two pieces of meat and a few vegetables, I threw it in the garbage.
The pork vermicelli dish costs approximately $17 but does not include any spring rolls and is a smaller portion.. If you want spring rolls, they are an additional $5 each! (Lol)
In the attached picture you can see its a large pile of noodles with a palm size portion of vegetables. The vegetables were only a bit of lettuce and carrot. The majority of the meal is noodles unfortunately.
Now let's discuss the meat... the meat was heavily coated in MSG. Which as we know, many people are allergic too. It is really unfortunate they do not know how to cook dishes with flavour; without having to use flavour enhancers. Its a cheat, rather lazy, and unhealthy. When meat is treated with msg, it looses its texture and will taste like a pile of salt. The meat will be mush like. And this is how their meat was. It was the worst meat I have eaten in years.
I dont agree with the use of msg, but sometimes a tiny pinch can enhance already existing flavours in Pho, for example. Somewhat of a normal practice within the culture. But here, at this restaurant, it was coated in msg and was used as its flavoring.
So in short, it lacked value, extreme use of msg, no bean sprouts, and very few vegetables generally. Not always included, but no mint or cilantro. Fish sauce portion too small for the dish.
My suggestion, do another search online for a Vietnamese Restaurant... there are a couple up the hill, or use sea bus and there are a couple near where it docks. Just spend a few more minutes of your time, and you find a great dish for $19 with all the fixings, large portion including lots of vegetables, excellent flavour (possible pinch of msg but not always) at a location that takes pride in their...

A Quick Stop for a Bite
Dex Burger Bar & Vinam Vietnamese Cuisine offers a mix of Western and Vietnamese dishes in a casual setting. During my visit, I opted for two Vietnamese noodle soups, but the experience was underwhelming.
Food
House Special Pho
This bowl featured rare beef, beef balls, beef brisket, onions, and green onions. While the portion was fair, the broth lacked depth, and the overall flavor was average. It was decent but not particularly memorable.
Rating: 7/10
Wonton Noodle Soup
The wontons were fine, and the noodles had a decent texture, but the broth was quite ordinary. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t stand out either.
Rating: 7/10
Ambiance
The restaurant is small and unremarkable in terms of decor. It serves its purpose for a quick meal but doesn’t offer much in terms of atmosphere or comfort.
Rating: 6/10
Service
Service was disappointing. The staff didn’t offer water or tea, nor did they check in to see how the food was. A little more attentiveness would have made the experience better.
Rating: 3/10
Price
The prices were reasonable, neither too high nor particularly great value.
Verdict
Dex Burger Bar & Vinam Vietnamese Cuisine is a decent spot if you’re looking for a quick bite, but don’t expect anything beyond the basics. The food is passable, the ambiance is minimal, and the service needs...
Read moreEverything we ordered, the lemongrass chicken, the banh mi and the phó was delicious and worth the money. The prices for each were also fair and we didn't have to wait long for our orders. What makes the experience really bothering was the service, from the getgo ordering the guy in glasses manning the counter had an unpleasant attitude and was overall cold even as we were polite thanking them each time our food was served. It's ironic since the food is great but then the people talking to the customers had utmost disinterest to servicing customers. I would also include that there's an extra fee for extra cutlery, I get it's a business and inflation is hitting us all but in my perspective, it's still cutlery and we want to eat with our family by sharing. It's just really unpleasant being unable to truly enjoy your meal when you experience an unnecessary bad service given with no reason. Almost perfect experience, so take this review with a grain of salt if you wanna...
