Jozef's Pastry Boutique — Restaurant in North Vancouver

I don’t like leaving negative reviews, especially because I really like this brand—but my recent experience with their delivery-pickup process was incredibly frustrating.

I was hosting a small party on a Saturday afternoon, and it happened to be one of my guest’s birthdays. I placed an order through Uber Eats for a cake, which was confirmed by the shop at 10:30 a.m. I assumed everything was set, told my guests the cake was covered, and went on with party preparations.

At 1:00 p.m.—the scheduled pickup time, when someone had already gone to collect the cake—I received an email saying my order had been cancelled. Apparently, they didn’t have the cake I ordered. But not only had they confirmed the order, they waited until the exact pickup time to cancel it—despite knowing they couldn’t fulfill it.

They apparently tried calling me beforehand (the only communication option through Uber Eats), but my phone wasn’t working. I later saw missed calls from an unfamiliar number in Manitoba—not the shop’s number—so I hadn’t paid attention in the rush of party prep.

By the time I figured all this out and checked with Uber Eats (who couldn’t do anything, of course), it was nearly 2:00 p.m. Instead of enjoying my party, I had to scramble to find a last-minute cake to replace the one I had promised.

A feast for the eyes— but that’s it. 2 stars for service and presentation. I’ve eaten grocery store pastries that tasted better than these. They are beautiful but completely bland, flavourless, and unexciting. The cream just tastes like cream and regardless of the color or flavour, they all kind of taste the same. The pastry itself is dull. Breadcrumbs taste better. The strawberry mousse tasted over sweet, mild and artificial. The Napoléon was blander than any. Makes me think of damp toilet paper— plain, unremarkable, sad. I am so so so so disappointed at having driven 41km and paid just under $60 for this garbage. I suspect anyone leaving 5 star reviews was just content at presentation but has no actual experience in having tasted good pastries. Again, they are beautiful and the customer service is superb but that’s the most I can give them credit for. Never a more underwhelming pastry experience… wow— in the worst...
