Was looking forward to going as we recently moved to the area, and are right around the corner.
Ultimately, the apps were very good, mussles and feta salad, but the mains, steak and brisket tacos, were both quite disappointing.
Steak was simply not good. Medium rare requested, but what was recieved was significantly overcooked. I can generally live with that, but the real problem was that the actual taste of the meat was simply bad, and just did not taste good.
Until today, I have never met a steak I didn't like. This was mushy, and had an unpleasant taste (not rotten) but it tasted like it had been boiled, lost all natural flavour, and had a slight bitter flavour to it. Difficult to explain.
To navigate, I chopped it up, then mixed it with all of the veg, mash, and gravy to try and mask the taste. Didn't work. Ended up fishing most of the pieces out and leaving them on the side....completely unheard of from me, as a pretty extreme (and not fussy at all) meat lover. Super disappointing as I was very eager to recieve it, and it was a higher ticket item in terms of cost. Totally unfortunate.
Wife had the brisket tacos, which had hardly any brisket whatsoever (which was odd as both apps were very well portioned) and came in a shell that fell apart completely as soon as she tried to eat it.
During the appetizer round, we were thinking of future family events we could enjoy here, and were excited about other items on the menu we really wanted to try.
....after the mains, we both agreed we would not be back. Maybe for apps....but probably not given the mains had really killed the vibe and ruined our confidence in the menu.
We noticed the table next to us, sent back two dishes. Maybe just an off night?
Service was generally good but also inconsistent. Hostess sat us down and told us about the history and mission of the restaurant. Very cool.
After we ordered drinks at our table, 3 additional servers came by to ask us if we wanted a drink (a bit overkill, but still better than being underserviced in my opinion).
However, later when we asked for the bill and wanted to leave, we were left waiting for nearly 15 minutes.
With little ones at home, it is tough for us to get out. We've been to Tin Cup and Miro and loved both!!
Unfortunately things just did not work out for us tonight here.
**UPDATE: I appreciate the response from Carmen, but clarifications are much needed.
First - the assertion from your staff that we deferred the mains...twice apparently...is totally and completely false. The mains were deferred ZERO times. My jaw dropped when I saw this. I understand having an interest in trusting your staff, particularly when you are not there - but that claim is 100% false. Very interesting to see a pivot to blame-shifting rather than taking responsibility. I've dropped a star from the staff rating. They were all extremely friendly, but the creativity in claiming the mains were deferred....not once but twice (!)....is false, ridiculous, and laughable (and totally unnecessary).
Second - while you do seem to have a sound process for steak, the one I recieved was simply not good, and was inedible. It's not that it was bland, as I could live with that, but rather it tasted like an old wet gym sock (with the bad taste even permeating through the sauce). It was gross. Sorry, but it was. And it WAS mushy. As noted, I'm not a fussy person, particularly when it comes to steak and I was hungry. This particular piece of meat was not ok. I optimistically believe your process works in general - but it 100% did not work this time.
Third - yes, we are very familiar with corn tortillas. They fell apart not from being soggy (as there was no prolonged wait period as you were incorrectly told), but from being overly dry. Corn is definitely trickier to handle in our experience, but having them fall apart instantly was uncommon.
No point in returning. The total BS story around deferring the mains, and lack of ownership around the bad steak seals it for us. Probably in the best interest for all parties...
Read moreI prefer leaving positive reviews but my experience at Easy on Fourth had very few positives. But, I'll start with a few: the brownie was tasty and had a great sauce, and the restaurant was clean. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end for me. I arrived with a friend and joined 3 other friends who were already there. I ordered a Pepsi and a Filet mignon Brioche sandwich and my friend ordered a beer and a fries with gravy. Fifteen minutes later the waiter arrived with our meals but still no drinks. He came back 2 minutes later with my Pepsi and told my friend that he was just changing the keg on the beer but that it would be out soon. A few minutes later he returned and said that they were actually out of the beer and he should order something else. He ordered an Italian beer (I can't recall the name). They were out of that too. Eventually he ordered and got a beer. Our waiter then disappeared again for 20 minutes. I finished my Pepsi and wanted another but had to wait until the waiter came back to clear our plates. At that point he offered me another Pepsi since he said refills were free. I accepted and ordered a brownie. The brownie came, still no drink. I finished the brownie and waited 15 minutes for him to clear our plates again. He apologized and said a number of times that he wasn't up to his usual standards and that he knew that the service was poor. He then brought our bills with my refill. Nothing was discounted, which I found surprising given that our food came before our drinks and we never were able to get refills on our drinks. The restaurant had only 1 other table in use with 4 people at it for most of our time there so I have no idea why the service was so poor. I was also disappointed by the filet brioche, it was relatively tasty but the filet was almost lost in the sauce as there was very little actual filet. The brownie was good but had no ice cream, wasn't particularly big and was $13. My meal of a sandwich, a Pepsi and a dessert was $50. I read all the other reviews and responses so I understand they don't have a freezer on site and make things from scratch but there still needs to be a better balance of price, service and quality. If I'm going to pay $50 for a sandwich and a dessert, I expect everything to...
