My boyfriend and I decided to check out this Cafe after I saw great reviews online about the food and atmosphere. Went this morning for breakfast. The inside of the cafe was very beautiful and bright and welcoming. However, the service we received during our time here was the absolute opposite of that. I got a cappuccino and the rancheros breakfast. My boyfriend got an espresso, fresh orange juice, and the morty breakfast sandwich with the potatoes on the side. The espresso was one of the worst espressos we’ve ever had which was really unfortunate. It was extremely watery and bitter to the point in which he couldn’t even drink it (added sugar afterwards and still that couldn’t help it). My boyfriend’s breakfast sandwich was very good. The potatoes were alright as the texture was good but kind of bland. My breakfast was alright. It really lacked flavour and good textures which was unfortunate. I had to season my plate with more salt and pepper as well as the potatoes.
The server we had was very unpleasant and rude. Barely checked on us throughout our time, and we felt rushed through our visit. We waited a long while after we finished our meal for our server to come back.
After paying, she just took the machine and as she started to walk away (without staying or looking at us) said “have a good day”. That was really rude and disrespectful. Throughout our stay, our waitress would respond back to us saying “huh, what” with a rude tone in her voice. We noticed other tables with the same waitress getting better and faster service than us.
Overall, was not impressed with the customer service we received. It’s difficult to go out to eat due to rising costs, and therefore make it a special occasion to go out. The breakfast was on the pricier end which is more than fine if the customer service and the entirety of the meal add up to it. Excellent customer service is very important to me, and it should be important to all employees. Will not be returning, first and last time.
Update: I was given an email to email back regarding my experience. I still have not heard back, emailed 4 days ago. I will update when/if I hear back and any follow up has happened.
UPDATE: I finally received an email from the manager or “Brad”. A week and a half later. All that he sent was “ Hello Alexandra, What did you want to discuss further?”
I’m very surprised and shocked by this email. After my negative experience I was told by Brad to email him and he would help if I ever wanted to return to the cafe. However from this email sent much later, it is very clear that the management at this cafe do not put their customers first (nor want to improve on negative customer service). Another email sent if I wanted to give him a call to discuss this further. Overall, nothing further to discuss.
I definitely will be telling my friends and family not to come to this cafe as I am just surprised at how management deals with negative customer reviews. This is just my...
Read moreFor my girlfriend’s birthday on May 7th, I wanted to treat her to a nice weekday brunch since her evening was already booked. Even though it meant driving a bit farther from Mississauga, I chose Kerr St Café based on their weekday brunch menu, beautiful interior, and strong reviews.
When we arrived, the café was understandably busy, they don’t take reservations in advance. We were told there would be a 30-minute wait, so we took a short stroll around the cute neighborhood.
By the time we returned around 1:40 PM, the brunch rush had settled and the restaurant was much quieter. As we were shown to our table, we noticed a few empty spots near the windows. Instead, we were seated at a two-seater tucked against a wall, separated from the rest of the dining area by a high-traffic walkway. The table felt quite isolated.
As first-time guests, we tried to stay open-minded, maybe there was a seating flow we didn’t understand. But we couldn’t help but notice that the young-looking female server who seated us gave off a cold, reluctant energy, like she didn’t want to serve us but had to. I wasn’t looking to “pull the race card,” and I truly didn’t want to believe that how we looked had anything to do with it, but I also couldn’t think of any other reason why we’d be treated that way. It’s hard not to wonder when there’s no obvious cause for the coldness, especially as visible Asian minorities. I made a conscious choice to focus on celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday and enjoying our time together.
It wasn’t until recently that I asked her how she felt about the experience and without hesitation, she shared the same discomfort. She pointed out that even more tables continued to open up throughout our meal, making the seating choice feel more intentional in hindsight. To add to that feeling, when the server took our order, she asked me how I wanted my eggs, but didn’t ask my girlfriend the same. Instead, she turned to her and simply asked, “Do you want the same?” It was a small thing, but it added to the overall impression, like my girlfriend wasn’t being seen as a full guest in her own right. She later mentioned she hadn’t expected that and felt a bit dismissed in that moment.
To be fair, the food was great, the decor was beautiful, and most of the other staff were friendly, including the bartender who warmly said goodbye as we left.
But here’s the thing: if this is the kind of culture they’re consciously or unconsciously creating, where minorities don’t feel welcomed, then good job, because that’s exactly the message being sent. But if the goal is to create an inclusive space where everyone can enjoy great food, ambiance, and service, then this might be something worth reflecting on and addressing.
We’re sharing this in the spirit of honesty and in hopes that feedback like this leads to greater awareness and a more welcoming experience for all...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Kerr Street Café in Oakville again, and once more, it did not disappoint! The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy aesthetic that makes it the perfect spot for a relaxed brunch. Despite being quite busy, we managed to get seated after a 40-minute wait, which, given the café’s popularity, was completely understandable. And let me tell you—it was absolutely worth it!
Latte – A Smooth and Comforting Sip ☕
We started with a latte, and it was simply perfection in a cup. The balance between the espresso and milk was just right—rich, velvety, and beautifully frothed. Served in a well-presented cup, the latte had a delicate, aromatic espresso flavor with subtle nutty undertones. The foam on top was thick and creamy, making each sip feel like a warm hug.
Blueberry Pancakes – A Fluffy Indulgence 🥞
Next up were the blueberry pancakes, which were soft, fluffy, and cooked to perfection. The moment they arrived at our table, the aroma of warm pancakes mixed with the sweetness of fresh blueberries was absolutely tempting. Each bite was pillowy soft, bursting with juicy blueberries and drizzled with just the right amount of golden maple syrup, adding a delicious caramelized sweetness without being overpowering. To top it off, a dollop of butter melted beautifully into the stack, making them irresistibly indulgent.
French Toast – A Decadent Treat 🍞🍯
The French toast was another highlight of our meal—thick-cut, golden brown, and perfectly crispy on the outside, yet soft and custardy on the inside. It was lightly dusted with powdered sugar, adding just the right amount of sweetness, and was paired with fresh berries that provided a refreshing contrast. The syrup drizzled over it complemented the buttery texture, making every bite rich, flavorful, and satisfying.
Final Thoughts – A Must-Visit Café!
Even though this was my second time visiting Kerr Street Café, I find myself wanting to come back more often. The only challenge? The café closes at 4 PM, and I’ve missed a few opportunities to visit simply because I couldn’t make it in time. If you’re looking for a top-tier brunch experience in Oakville, this place is an absolute must-visit. Whether you’re craving a perfectly brewed latte, indulgent blueberry pancakes, or the best French toast in town, you won’t be disappointed.
I highly recommend arriving early to secure a table, but even with a wait, the quality of food and service makes it completely worthwhile! Can’t wait to return for another...
