During the month of August 2022, we have eaten two times at Maurya Indian Twist, Oakville and here is our experience: Monday, August 8, 2022 – Dine in – Lunch i. Welcome and Greetings – The staff (Santosh) was very warm and welcomed us to the restaurant ii. Menu Selection – Chef Preseed guided us in the menu selection and educated us on the “No Oil” cooking. We were curious to know how Indian food would taste without the use of oil. The dishes we ordered were a. starter - Honey Garlic cauliflower sizzler b. Veg Vindaloo curry c. Plain and garlic Rumali roti d. Butter chicken and e. Veg Biryani iii. My review: a. Honey Garlic Cauliflower was unique, never eaten this before, and loved it b. Veg Vindaloo curry – liked the gravy, and found it tasty and different from the usual Indian restaurants (Spoke to the Chef and he informed us that they make their own sauce, and it is not purchased in bulk from any factory, like most Indian restaurants do) c. Rumali rotis were soft and tasty d. Butter chicken (my friend said it was tasty. I am a vegetarian 😊) e. Veg Biryani – WOW!! This is the first time that I have eaten biryani “NOT SOAKED IN OIL.” It was very tasty, and I got to speak to the Chef on how they make the biryani 😊 Me and colleague/ friend had an excellent experience and we left with the feeling that we are coming back soon.
Thanks to Santosh and Chef Preseed for taking good care of me and colleague/friend.
Planning the second trip: On getting back to my home in Markham, I shared with family the YUMMY food and GREAT customer experience. The opportunity came within the next few weeks for a second visit😊
Saturday, August 20, 2022 – Take Out
Our family was in Oakville for lunch at a friend’s place, and we all wanted to do a takeout of the Veg. Biryani for dinner.
i. Welcome and Greetings – Mr. Jagadish greeted us and took our order. We then sat in the dine in area while waiting for the biryani to be ready. (We used the rest rooms and they were very clean) ii. Decorations/Ambience – When we first visited on August 8 the deco was being done, but this time around it was complete. The deco was UNIQUE and tastefully done, and gave the restaurant warmth, welcoming and made us feel relaxed. I am sharing some photos with this review. iii. Customer Care – Mr. Jagadish was truly kind to our young daughter and packed her a few ‘Gulab Jamuns.” She was thrilled and started to eat them once in the car 😊 iv. Customer Service – Swati was the server and provided us service with a SMILE! v. Families review of the Biryani: Daughter and wife loved the Biryani, and again the “NO OIL” was very evident and appreciated.
Thanks Mr. Jagadish and Chef Preseed for providing good service.
We ae now looking forward to our next dine...
Read moreFood is alright but I've had better. I usually go to Punjabi by Nature in Oakville but since they were about to close I came here instead. The reviews on Google seemed pretty promising.
Maurya was really easy to find late at night, it has two huge bright signs right off of Lakeshore. Parking was ample and there's two sides, on the left is their takeout building (they still have seating available) and on the right is their restaurant side. Same exact menu just different atmospheres. I like that their menu was easy and well organized, and they had a chart to where you could customize your dish's spice level.
Pricing I found to be a little up there especially for the portion, there was an extra $2 charge for rice which I was like bruh, since at other places rice is typically included. I got chicken tikka masala over rice which came out to $20 after tax and it was the size of a Chipotle bowl. If I had ordered the chicken by itself it'd have come out to around $17 after tax. The portion of chicken was pretty solid in my opinion, nice large chunks of super soft breast meat. Rice was well portioned as well. The thing that threw me off a little was the curry itself, whenever I have tikka (paneer, lamb, chicken, etc.) it always comes in a smooth orange colored gravy, but this one was red and chunky with green bell peppers, little more on the savory side. It tasted more like butter chicken?? I'm not complaining because it was good and I ate the whole thing, just not what I was expecting. Maybe it's a regional thing because I know certain areas do their dishes a little bit differently.
The lady at the register was really sweet and gave me a free small side of raita, which was GAS. Surprisingly one of the best raitas I've had lol. I ended up getting one kesar kulfi, and while expecting a popsicle as how it was advertised on the menu, I got this tiny 4oz portion for SEVEN DOLLARS. :| It was rock hard and I couldn't eat it with the wooden utensils they provided because it snapped on me. Flavor was good though.
My experience was a solid 6/10. Not sure if I'd come back but wouldn't not recommend to people who are looking for a late night Indian spot. Probably don't order the...
Read moreUpdate Sept. 22, 2025: Today when i went to pick up my order, they greeted me and told me it was my 87th order! Enough said?! The food is perfectly simmered and seasoned (no matter how mild or hot we order it), with even more options than before (incl. more vegan, vegetarian, and chicken, lamb or shrimp choices). The staff is The Best... friendly, caring, and accommodating. Even while facing some health challenges this past year and a half, i trusted Maurya Oakville, knowing it is quality, healthy food. Thank You again, from Bea! ❤️
Have been getting takeout from here almost weekly since 2022. The dishes are all deeply flavourful and delicious, and it's difficult to decide what to order, so i order a lot and we gladly enjoy the leftovers for days! The menu is vast and interesting, with its offering of Indo-Chinese fusion and its street food vibe, but we most enjoy the dishes. We also appreciate that you can order your 'heat' preference for each dish. When we have company over, we're always glad to know they also enjoy Indian food. It's so easy to order, guests appreciate it, and it never disappoints. Our favourites include the masala fries (soooo gooood!), samosas, chicken korma, lamb makhani, eggplant, dal, malai kofta, chana curry and saag paneer. But we do switch it up sometimes, and everything we order is delicious. The service is always pleasant and accommodating. Everyone there cares that you enjoy and appreciate the food. So glad to have this place so close to home. Highly Recommended. Best...
