I really wanted to give this place more than 2 meager stars. If you see my other reviews, I actually love conplimenting local businesses. I'm very sad as I write this. Originally (as I wrote this review) I gave this Montfort only 1 star, but after meditating on this restaurant's redeeming qualities, there are some. However, they do not outweigh the dissappintment of the tough, lifeless, main attraction: the meat and potatoes (literally). That is why I don't recommend this restaurant. (I can generally recommend restaurants that are 3-star and above)
Case in point: we had so much takeaway (3 containers worth!!) because the main dishes were surprisingly unappetizing. Meat so tough, chewing it was like a jaw-strengthening exersize. It didnt feel like eating, it felt like work.
:(
Great atmosphere, though. We loved the staff; they were so chill and relaxed. Doesn't make up for the fact that, what we came here for (the food), was so dry and old tasting. Let me be specific: the deluxe meat items were ALL overcooked and came out barely warm, like it was left to sit. If you want good meat, run!!!!!! Look elsewhere.
Heartbreaking that the spices and flavour combinations would have been OUT OF THIS WORLD IF NOT for the tough texture of all the meats. :(
We ordered the Deluxe Mixed Grill for 4 people. Positives: the pita bread was delicious and fluffy; the salad was fresh and crisp; and the babaganoush was probably the best thing about the meal. Ouch. NOT WORTH $145, which came to $166.75 after tax. That does not even include tip, drinks or desert. Divided by 4 people, that's $41.69 PER PERSON. What a waste of money....
The "secret family recipe passed down for generations" was such an epic fail because the chicken was overcooked to the point of being as dry as military rations. The pineapple and all the other mains were only lukewarm (probably left under a heat lamp for too long and then left to cool for too long). Same thing with the kafta kebab (so dry and tough), lamb kebab skewers (so dry and hard, it took 2 people to remove the meat from the skewer. SO beyond OVERCOOKED), and the lamb chops (this was the ONLY meat that was remotely tender, but still very dry... and most especially the dry, hard, traumatizingly sharp chunks of shawarma chicken. The shawarma was bar-none worse than any street shawarma I've ever had. Every meat item was a sincere and epic failure. We ended up packing most of it up. Ohh yeah, before I forget. The kafta was so tough (yes, this is supposed to be GROUND MEAT) that the serraded serving steak knives could not cut through it on first pass. I had to saw that little monster like my life depended upon it!!! Only reason I give this place a 2 star and not 1 is because the service and atmosphere was very pleasant, the sauces delicious, babaganoush was top notch, and the rice was superb. Service would have been better (I only give 3 out of 5 stars) if they offered us a piece of home fries to try before making us choose our side dish (there are no pictures of home fries on their menu. If there were pictures or if service provided a sample, I would have given 4). Turns out the rice was in a whole other league than the potatoes, so good. Seriously, why is the main food so bad??? If not for the very small side items, I would have given the food a zero star (if Google even allowed that). We went in at 6:30pm on a Wednesday in spring 2025. Never again. I hope this business gets a new chef to look after their meats. This place has so much potential. :(
The silver lining: their bathrooms are very beautiful and clean with fabulous...
Read moreI want to start by saying I am not typically one who complains about anything. I am an easy going individual and chalk up most poor experiences to one-offs. I love your restaurant and the food you guys make. It’s the small details that I appreciate - the meat overflowing from the pita and the second garlic sauce every time. It keeps me justified in me paying a bit of a premium price for what is comparatively a smaller pita, especially in today’s market with Lazeez and Osmows at every corner. I also come with my family from time to time for the occasional sit down dinner. Even the take out experience is typically warm and friendly.
My brother and I picked up two pitas tonight as we frequently do and we were actually a bit surprised at the music being played in the restaurant. I noticed people trying to dine however there was loud rap music (with racial profanities) being played. Don’t get me wrong - I’m all for it on my own time and on my own radio but I was actually taken aback that the restaurant would be playing nightclub style music. No big deal -no harm no foul and I’m not a prude - just one of my observations.
I brought my food home and unfortunately noticed a very bitter taste. I opened it up and found extremely old lettuce, smelling bad and very stale. It was completely brown and foul tasting in both of our pitas. I attached an image as I wouldn’t normally take the time to write an email like this unless I truly meant it. It was so unappetizing to have to pick out the stale lettuce chunks that we just abandoned our sandwiches half way and ate whatever was left in the fridge to satisfy our hunger at this time of night.
I mentioned before that I am easy going. The reality is - mistakes happen all the time and no one is perfect. Maybe whoever was making our sandwiches tonight didn’t notice, and that’s what I want to believe. I still like your restaurant but I want to ensure that this reaches the right parties so it doesn’t happen again and your business stays successful. As for dinner, my hope is that my next experience at Montfort is what I usually experience and not like the one I had tonight.
Lastly - I'm disappointed as I emailed this above about 14 days ago to your info email address posted on your website, and I did not receive any reply. If that email inbox is not checked - it should not be listed on your...
Read moreAlthough the staff was friendly, and in the past we have been there will great food it was very disappointing regarding 2 things.. 1. they do not have an option for a substatute item if you for dietiery reasons.. it was kinda weird... with a meal they give you an option of garden salad or soup... but if you want to change the fries or rice (because you can not do either for dietary or alergy reasons ) they charge you extra to get the garden salad? Odd... they also have a coupon promotion for a FREE Entree in a coupone book ... but they said it is only worth something of equal value of $8.. yet none of their meals they offer is $8..... and when asking about getting a Dinner Salad (priced at $15 odd dollars with a dinner falafel plate (priced at about the same) to get the $8 off we are told it was a no go... i get if we were asking for a sandwich only dish or a small salad..... well we decided to just say ok lets stick with the soup we know we love it every other time we went... (lentil) When it came it was very disappointing.. it was watered down i had to throw in so much salt and pepper in it and it still didnt taste right.... I am wondering if it was because slow they just had the bottom of the barrel left.... but it was so disappointing... we have had the soup at that location and other locations before and it was thick and flavorable... The staff offered something else but we declined because we were just so disappointed... they didnt charge us for the soup (we only had a few spoonfuls each) which is good .. and as i said the staff was nice enough.. the place is clean... i guess it was just a bad night for the soup maybe? and we know now not to believe the coupons that they advertise with.. (these coupons are from a app purchase called...
