Denny's Restaurant — Restaurant in Ontario

Went to Denny's this morning around 945 am est.

My wife and I were seated, but we had to wait for a highchair. No big deal, really. The poor host on the door was getting slammed and no help in sight.

Our server came over, and didn't introduce herself, just barked "what can I get you?"

We placed our order, and proceeded to wait. Around us, after arriving, a two four-tops, a three top and two deuces were sat. One of the deuces managed by another server.

Our server then proceeded to take orders fr the other tables all at once (violating a cardinal serving rule of not stacking tables) and then proceeded to tell us that the POS system was down, and so our food would be a bit delayed as the system rebooted.

Familiar as I am with this process, I figured 20 minutes tops for that, if it was an older version of Squirrel or Micros.

This, however, didn't stop other servers from (rightfully) switching to a dummy cheque system, which our server did only after prompting.

The other tables she was managing got their food exceptionally quick (both fours within 15 minutes of being seated.) Still nothing.

When the food finally did arrive, the server attempted to blame the kitchen staff, saying they couldn't read her writing. And it was their fault the food was late, but that the meal had been comped by the management.

I have trouble believing this, as the rest of the table around us had no issue, clearly, and our food was cold. This means it had been sitting in the window for rather aong time. Long enough for my scrambled eggs to grow a bit of a skin.

With this, we informed the waitress we would be leaving. And all she said was "okay! Have a nice day! Thank you for coming!"

Amazing response from a server who has lost the plot. I feel like on quieter days, she'd be fine. But on Saturday and Sunday morning at a place known for...

My wife, kids and I visited your location on Friday and unfortunately had the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant.

Our server, an older lady with black hair was extremely rude and barely spoke to not only us but the customers around us.

The waitress served me luke warm tea with no sugar or cream, once she returned to take our breakfast order she acted inconvenienced when I asked her if I could have some cream and sugar with my tea, her response was “well most people use milk” before she walked away.

Once our food was ready, she nearly hit me in the face while passing my sons plate to me, did not ask us if we needed any other condiments or even suggest we enjoy our meal.

Most of our food was okay, but my daughter’s mac and cheese was served cold.

Once we began eating we never seen her again, she never asked us how our meal was or if we needed more top ups on our drinks.

At another table we observed an elderly couple as she quickly and rudely took their order and walked away as the gentleman was trying to request something and was ignored. Him and his wife also appeared to be beside themselves by her actions and horrible attitude.

The next time we seen her was to pay for our bill, which again she had not asked how our meal or service was. She had a very rude tone of voice through the entire service, and we noticed her treating the customers around us in the same manner.

I waited out front to speak to someone about this service but unfortunately everyone kept walking by myself and an elderly couple who were very patiently waiting to be serviced.

It was not busy at all, and definitely not the experience I expect for a $70 meal.

It was the first time in our lives we have not tipped a waitress.

I truly hope she is spoken to regarding her behaviour. She made us feel very uncomfortable and...

Edit:So it'd been a few months since I'd been there. Went today a little before noon. Bit of a wait to be seated, and again to pay (perhaps it's time to install a second debit machine), but the servers were great. My server was attentive, friendly (but not in my face), helpful with the order and cleared plates quickly. The staff asked if I wanted more coffee no less than 3 times. When I wanted water, they recognized my ASL request (I'm not deaf, but we have a noteworthy Deaf community in town). The service was great. The food was hot and plentiful. No complaints. I slipped my server a fiver in addition to the tip I left at the till, she was that good. Much better tham my visit six months ago.

May 2019 post: It's been hit and miss lately. The last server I had was perfect. She was genuinely kind and attentive. The previous visit I had a server who kept me waiting often (to be seated, to take my order, to bring utensils, to take my money - he didn't even offer a single refill on my coffee, so for pretty much everything). He said sorry a lot, but seemed insincere. I was kind and offered statements of understanding, he pretty much did his best to ignore me. It felt like I offended him in a past life or something. Or like I didn't deserve to be there, and he was being forced to serve me against his will. Worse still, I left the standard 20% tip (more actually, because he never showed to make change), and he looked at me like shoe gum as I was leaving on my next visit.
