A disappointing experience: today I ordered a dessert selection for my father to celebrate his 91st birthday. I ordered online for a delivery to his home as I live in another town. There were issues with the delivery - despite specific instructions to deliver to the back door, Door Dash delivered to the front door, where my father, who is hard of hearing, was not able to hear the delivery. The driver then left the baked goods in the heat and sun. (All this after the driver had already been tipped when making the online order.) The second issue was with the ordered items. Two substitutions had been made in my 4-item order, without my knowledge, consultation, or approval. I learned of the substitutions by two separate notification emails (that is, I was informed of the substitutions made, and was not offered the opportunity to make any changes to the order myself), but saw the emails only after delivery had been made. (Interesting that notifications of substitutions occurred via email, whereas other status notifications were made by text). There was thus no option for me to make a decision to cancel my order based on item unavailability, reduce the assortment of pastries ordered by removing the unavailable items, or making my own selections to substitute for unavailable items. This was very disappointing and could have been circumvented by a quick text exchange or phone call. This might be a bakery better suited for in-person visiting rather than remote ordering. Alternatively, perhaps ordering remotely by phone would work better; presumably one would then be informed in real time about any selected items that are not actually available.
Post-script in response to the ownerâs reply: I appreciate the apology and clarification regarding the role that Door Dash may have played in the sequence of disappointments. Nonetheless, M & J retains responsibility for the professional relationship between M &J and Door Dash, and a failing on the part of Door Dash then reflects poorly on M & J. Perhaps a partial credit could be...
Read moreWe are so grateful to have found this lovely cake place in the heart of downtown Kingston. M & J Cakes & Cookies did the most impressive Vanilla Log Cake for our holiday festivities, and always provides the family-run style of customer attention and service that we are seeking. The boutique itself has a beautiful display of middle eastern delights, handmade chocolates, and hip and interesting snack gifts. After the unpleasant experiences we have had with several other cake places in the city (sour service/dry cake from a 3 generation cake lady, wrong order from a brand new house of cravings, broken tooth from a date square/pit on Bath Rd.!), our family now has a new favorite. The baker provided us with a moist cake, creamy texture, and never over sweetened icing. Please consider this overlooked, but fantastic, bakery for all your Cakes & Cookies...
Read moreThis Store is accepting Cash,Credit and debit I know one day the system was out of order and at that day they are accepting cash only and they told us before we buy anything that the system is down, regarding the Mini donuts the price is written in front of the customer in the advertising board of the Mini donuts so anyone can see it before buying and the price is 8 PCs by $7.49 + Tax - not $8.50 and this price includes the heating and the sugar or the Caramel or the chocolate syrup and packing.
