Generally only like to leave good reviews and figure when stuff goes bad it’s a bad day etc.. but it feels like this place is taking advantage. High price and my food was gross. I had the Ahi Tuna, which is a blend of a bunch of stuff with tuna on top. Rice was more like a dry gruel, cooked at too high a temperature maybe l, and so was both soggy and crunchy. No flavour, like zero. Wanted to go out and get the Costco poki stuff and bring it to the kitchen to let folks try. Carrots and maybe pineapple was bad, like old, where the carrots kind of curl, have white lines and are chewy. Gross. Edamame was unseasoned and so was just boiled beans… all for a high high price. I ate and choked down the tuna just out of respect for the animal.
Generally if you call something sushi it’s more than rice and raw fish with some veggies. First the rice should be mixed with a bit of apple cider vinegar and a little sugar and cooked properly. There is usually a saltiness that comes from the soy sauce. A nice touch would be some ginger on one side and maybe an option for wasabi. Non of that was present. It was more like a bad rice salad with a bit of raw tuna on top. Hard pass.
Everyone else had so so stuff. It’s a shame. So many nice restaurants in the city, it sucks that tourists are getting diverted into this. If you are looking for higher-end try Chez Piggy, Bistro Stefan, Grekos, The Union, Olivea, or Tango Nuevo, there are others. This place is not worth the money. I would pay to not eat what I was served.
A couple other things, the bruschetta was pretty good but under toasted bread made them soggy. Need to brush bread with a bit of oil, toast until golden, then slop on the stuff. Well seasoned though.
The clam strips? were out of a box and tasted like a bulk purchase. Machine breaded, etc..
Also, we’ve been to a lot of Milestones, Cambridge, Burlington, etc.. and have had great food. The chain seems okay but the kitchen here seems lost. At all of these Milestones our kids our given colouring things, we asked for those here but were told some kids once coloured on the tables and so they’ve taken them away. My kids were told that some other kids ruined it for them, which was weird. They were puzzled. Just say “we don’t have them” instead of projecting some weird guilt thing onto other kids….
Anyway, not family friendly. Also My daughter, who we call jughead do to her ability to pack away burgers, didn’t finish her burger, I was starving so tried it. Super grisly with like hard bits inside.
Ice cream came with their meal. Someone came out of the back and handed them store bought ice-cream sandwiches without plates like we were at the dairy bar. Not a problem in places with $12-$20 plates but weird in a place we thought was a bit higher end.
Anyway, the place is a ripoff. Reminds me of Niagara Falls tourist trap restaurants. Avoid and instead try one of Kingston’s amazing...
Read moreIt all started with a reservation for our Anniversary.
We booked a reservation for Friday Sept 5th for 4 people online. No need to answer the question when you book , is this reservation a special occasion. It doesn't matter nobody checked the booking. When we arrived the hostess was friendly and greeted us. I told her we had a reservation for 4 people at 6 pm under our name. The restaurant wasnt that busy so no waiting. She didn't check the reservation on her system and we weren't aware the other couple had arrived before us. They were seated in the dining area and we chose to sit in the bar area at a window. The couple text me bc they saw us come in, but we never arrived at their table they were seated at. When they arrived the hostess never checked the reservation either. She put two tables together in the dining area, back room between to large tables with eight people at each table. Instead, they asked for a booth and were moved to it, but the hostess obviously didnt like their request. When they sat down the hostess rudely just dropped the menus on the table and walked away. It took 3 staff to help us come together at the right table, because they failed to check us in properly. We decided to stay in the bar area by the window. We proceeded to enjoy our evening. After the kerfuffle all 3 staff walked away and no one came back to the table and ask if we wanted a cocktail. I had to go to the bar and ask for someone to come and take our drink order. Unbenonuced to us the bar area has live music during dinner. A solo artist. Great voice but it was way too loud it was like being at a live concert not fine dining. We had great difficulty carrying on a conversation. When i asked if they could turn down the music i was told by the server she would ask but unfortunately that was the volume in the bar area. The level of volume could be heard all the way to the back room to the bathrooms. She did offer to seat us in the dining area in the back, but we were almost finished our meal. We dont think it would have made a difference anyway for the volume. We love great music and the solo vocalist had a great voice, but for dining; the volume was way too loud. The food was delicious but the steak my one guest ordered medium rare came medium well. He told the server and said he'd keep it bc he was hungry. They did give us a credit for the steak order error. Foods good but the ambiance is not what we expected. Dining and live music should have balance. It should be background music not over powering conversation. We were very disappointed and will think twice about returning. This is the first time we have been there and a live performance was also in the bar. It has changed the perception of dining at this...
Read moreI have always loved Milestones here in Kingston... the atmosphere is wonderful, and the bar and dining space is beautiful. I was very disappointed this evening. My husband, son, & myself waited for 30 minutes to be seated. Benefit of the doubt ... wait times happen, especially downtown kingston but no one, NO ONE who actually worked at Milestones let us know there was a wait. A wait time can be understood when notice is given, please inform your guests as soon as possible. For us... There was absolutely no greeting at the door. We were ignored for about 20 minutes. Another customer went up to the bartender and asked for the wait time...they were told the wait would be 10 minutes. The other customers kindly let us know and then they went on their way to another restaurant. We waited the 10 minutes and still nothing. We spoke with the bartender and she was able to grab someone to seat us. Thank you to the female bartender this evening. I gave 2 stars as you were very kind, respectful, and professional and the male server who continued to fist bump my son was hilarious. As well as running around the restaurant like a chicken with his head cut off... We could tell, He was working very hard to make everyone happy and feel comfortable, thank you sir! When the food arrived at our table our sons plate was so hot we couldn't even touch it. I understand having a hot plate for a meal.. but this is a KIDS MEAL from the KIDS MENU. The chefs must know that a child will be touching this; so why bother heating up a plate where little hands could get hurt? My toddler doesn't need a hot plate straight out of the oven, especially for a grilled cheese and french fries. That is absolutely insane! BUT thank you to the male server who swapped the plate. We appreciate you. As for my husbands meal and my own... we agree; we wouldn't go back for seconds. My husband's vegetables were still raw and my whole dish tasted like someone spilled a whole container of pepper corns in it. Unfortunately, I wont be returning to Milestones any time soon. I am very disappointed with the service, and the meal. I hope this review helps the manager and staff to get back on track to where they used to be. As again... I once truly loved Milestones. Not sure...
