I never get tired of seeing Canada's Capital and it's Parliamentary government buildings. They are heritage architecture at its best. Not to speak of the physical site and tours available when Canada's Parliament is not sitting/working. The location is open to the public and when walking around the site you have the heritage buildings, statues if important influential Canadians and walking around the buildings you are treated to a spectacular views of the magnificent Ottawa river from east to west the province of Quebec and city of Gatineau with the world renowned museum of history. Look slightly farther and you can clearly see the famous Gatineau park a gem of greenspace and many outdoor activities.
There are many other significant buildings you will view from the walkway around back of Parliament Hill. There is so much more too. If you like to: bike, walk, roller blade, skateboard there are paved paths that you can take at the bottom of the hill where you will circle around this gorgeous area. Some of the things that you can see doing so include: Islands where Canada's First People's once lived, historical mills for the pulp and paper in its day, Holocaust Memorial (spectacular), museum of war, museum of history, from wide pedestrian friendly walking and bike paths the Alexandria bridge you will once again have a new set of spectacular panoramic views , followed by the National Gallery of Canada, Chateau Laurier (looks like a castle very cool), and the UNESCO world heritage site the Rideau canal.
In this downtown area there is the Byward Market, National Arts Center, etc. to see as well.
Note: Various buildings that comprise Parliament Hill are under ongoing rehabilitation. That said, at the time of writing this review the main attractions such as the tours of Parliament, the spectacularly renovated library and view from the peace are still accessable.
So depending on how you want to see Parliament Hill and it's immediate surroundings make sure to dress comfortably and do spend the time in the area. I promise you that you will be happy you did.

Read moreThe staff makes all the difference here. Great friendly people. Good selection of desserts that generally taste great. While I am not the biggest fan of their drip coffees (I find them often too acidic), I appreciate their low-sugar approach to specialty coffees, which makes for more subtle tasting drinks. I also appreciate the very open supplier-buyer relationship they have by showing the farmers they work with and generally supporting more local or organic products. Perhaps my only qualm is one I see in other Bridgeheads: the atmosphere and decor are rather industrial feeling. Everything from the floors to the lighting to the chairs gives that vibe which I tend to not find warm and inviting. This is where I prefer sitting in most other coffeehouses for...
Read moreThis is my second time trying bridgehead. First time at this location. I ordered a large iced coffee - the staff handed me a black coffee with ice cubes. For the price I should have just ordered a coffee and let it cool down. When I asked for them to add cream and sugar they pointed to the side where you had to add in your own sugar and cream. Whenever you go to other coffee places they add this in for you. The coffee itself didn’t taste to bad but the fact that you have to add sugar that doesn’t melt then you’re left with a grainy coffee was not the greatest. I don’t think...
