Bronson Pizza — Restaurant in Ottawa

Loving the idea of a diamond in the rough, we walked from our hotel to the second site of this well known Ottawa pizza joint. People who provided directions said they were envious of our dinner plans. The patron outside the door informed us we had made a most excellent choice. "It's the best." Post consumption, I can tell you it is not "the best", but rather, the one with the most cheese. It seems most in Ottawa enjoy a mountain of cheese on their pie. It is not bad pizza. I ate it and enjoyed it. I also enjoyed heartburn and constipation afterwards. I predicted that outcome when I opened the box to see that the cheese had overflowed the crust edge, the separated now liquid cheese fat dripping out the back corner of the box. The sauce has a sweetness with a slight cinnamon background note. One thin layer of meat (pepperoni was delish, I could taste some fennel in it) and then a slab of melted mozzarella shreds. The crust is thick and bread like, excellently crusted in order to hold the toppings without sogging. Bronson's, I suspect, could care less about reviews of what they do. They do what they do well, and aren't making airs of being something they are not. Not only is there no place to sit and eat, there is minimal space to stand beyond a 2ft square in front of the counter. The menu is taped to the counter, there are no other menus to hold in your hands. You are 3ft away from the searing hot pizza ovens. To say it is assaultingly hot on a +30C day is an understatement. The heat likely added to the bickering nature of the family running the joint, who seemed to bark at each other in Italian, then adjust to smile and speak English to us, and turn back to hating their pizza making life. I accepted it and pretended it was all part of the Little Italy charm. One final note. I'm sure they fight over who is responsible for cleaning duties, in the end everyone refusing. The site, which we were told is their newest site is filthy and looks to be 20 years worn, peeling paint, dusty old windows and greasy sauce spilled floors. Awesome food made by the awesome cook who is not giving enough credit for delivering his excellent product which is always consistently made to an excellent and wonderful standard quickly and with his many years of expertise and love of providing his customers with a culinary experience that is second to none. Bronson Pizza has been a staple in Ottawa that has not changed since back in 1986 when I was ordering the same pizzas that I'm still getting now in 2023. The dough, the sauce, the toppings, the mix of cheese that they use, and the effort and love that they put into creating their pizzas and all of their food has not changed since back when I was a teenager and ordering pizzas late at night after partying and going out on the town. Now, I have the luck of living just two blocks away from the place so I can just walk in and order what I want and they always go out of their way to make me what I want, how I want it, and it is always fantastic. I also have the ability to go in and have a great conversation with everyone who is there, all the employees and the drivers and we always have a good laugh and joke around and have a good time and they're always in a great mood and we have lots of fun talking about everything under the sun. Bronson Pizza is one of Ottawa's best pizza places, that has served Ottawa consistently for over 30 years with a great product and has not changed and is still the same and has the same great tasting Pizza as I remember from when I was 16 years old. I was so happy with the service i got from the time my friend and i stopped by after shopping all day/night lol we were starving and heading to my place so we stopped there the staff were very kind and funny veey nice experience for sure. After that every time wich was mostly every Friday and or Saturday night's after shopping all day/night once again we would stop there then go home to eat... The food was fast not a long wait at all portions are more then enough the food is awesome prices are fair I think there the best prices for wat u get and u get a lot and good food not cold old looking food that's been sitting around like most of those take out pizza joints....lol Then not long ago I hate my 2 sons over and they wanted to order food so I told them. About u guys so they called and placed there order . when the delivery guy got here I had never seen him before and he was being so rude with me passing in the lobby like he was annoyed at having to b waiting a few min for me to come from 22nd floor to lo by for him. Since that experience I've never ordered anything from them again only because of how he made me feel he could have come to my apartment..
