Absolutely pathetic meal, miniscule food portions pieces of meat that they're lying and calling a steak. They burnt all of the brussel sprouts. They loaded the entire plate with burnt overcooked vegetables. The orange juice was overly sour and could not be consumed it needed to have loads of sugar added and honey in order to make the orange juice bearable to drink, do not bother buying this overpriced $6 cup of pathetic orange juice. It's really just lemon juice that they're tricking you saying that it's orange juice. The waiter neglected to mention that they would charge $2 for extra honey and maple syrup and we were left to be surprised with a overcharge of honey and maple syrup. Very deceptive. The bacon was completely overcooked in an air fryer in the back. The bread was soaked up with butter, it was gross. They loaded the entire meal with this sauce no one asked for, you know you are eating a failed sous chef's sub-par meal when he loads it with sauce.. I had asked for no onions no peppers and no sauce and they put peppers sauce and onions in the plate just to fill it up with filler because they only had three pieces of meat. The steak that I'd ordered ended up being three pieces of cut up meat it was incredibly disappointing. After my 1: 30 brunch I can't wait to eat dinner because I'm starving after leaving that restaurant. I requested that the eggs be specifically cooked in a certain way and they neglected to even cook the eggs properly. I then told the waiter that I was "incredibly disappointed" (my exact words) with the meal and he said, "oh sorry" and just took the plate and walked off. The waiter's service was so pathetic he didn't even want to address the faults in the meal. Absolutely not worth the 90-minute wait for the table and then the 45 minute wait for the meal itself. I just wasted over an hour and a half on one of the most disappointing restaurant visits of my entire life. They also have an entire room just to wait. They could have filled up the room with tables and served another dozen people but I think they don't because they can't even keep up with the tables that they have. You don't even know who's working there because everyone's wearing football sweaters, hats and very casual wear with no name tags and random people just walk up to your table and start pouring water. The atmosphere was also extremely loud and we were unable to hear each other speak because the other tables were so loud. That's why I decided to give her one star rating for the atmosphere. There's also a sign for peking duck on the wall and bright neon lights but they don't even serve peking duck. It took over 45 minutes to receive breakfast, I've never waited that long for eggs in my life, even my dementia Parkinson's riddle grandmother could cook eggs faster than these folks.. I really should have walked away but didn't want to disappoint our elders meal. This is the first time I have ever written a Google review of a restaurant, I only did because I felt so strongly that I needed to save other people's time and valuable money from being wasted at gastro chesterfield's diner... Save yourself...
Read moreFirst come, first served, no reservations here at this tiny eatery. They open at 9 and you MUST get in line by 8:15/8:30am to be one of the first to snag a coveted table or the wait can be close to 2-3 hours long. I don't say this often but this wait for sure is worth it!!!!
Owned by a husband and wife duo who opened shop 8 years ago and have come up with every delicious Egg Benny combo you can think of! Their exec chef has been with them for just over a year now and I believe he's a keeper after sampling his special Benny of the day that involved lamb chorizo in the mix. Practically ordered all of the customer and staff favorite menu items and the stand out for us were:
Tijuana Nights Benny "Special of the week": I usually don't feature the special of the week as a gave because who knows if any egen it comes back but this one was worth noting! The gamey, slightly spicy lamb chorizo worked really well with the chipotle Holly (aka hollandaise), goat cheese guac, fresh jalapenos and a dusting of flaming hot Cheetos! I know sounds nuts but it all came together beautifully! Foghorn Leghorn: the air fried chicken was perfectly crispy Pan Ranchero: this one was my fave, packed with so much flavor that all melded well together, just needed more tortilla chips. Jerk Benny: Mild jerk flavor so good for those who usually can't take spice Steak Hash LeClaire: This one was a solid just good. Steak was cooked too a nice medium but was a bit chewy. Bird's Nest: Our tables most favorite... Come on potato cake STUFFED with cheese curd... Need I say more?
Service was fantastic and our water and coffee cups never were without either without us having to ask or flag someone down.
Is it worth this kind of hype? Yes, yes it is to wait in line 30 min before...
Read moreI dont usually write reviews but felt compelled to share my experience in case this happens to someone else. I went in for brunch for a friends birthday, we were a table of four. The food was was really delicious but while I left full, I also I left feeling cheated. I had to leave early for an appt so I left before the others had finished eating. I paid my bill as well as the bill for the table before leaving. I wanted it to be a birthday surprise and I thought it would be weird to announce to my friends that I had paid the bill so I didnt mention it them before leaving, assuming the servers would tell them it was settled when they called for their bill later. It came out after talking to one of the friends later that day, that in fact the servers billed out my three friends again! They double charged my friends after I had left. We went back to the restaurant for my friend to get a refund, we asked them how this happened and they explained that the table was not marked as clear after I paid. I fear that doesn't make sense though because they didnt charge my friends for my meal. So when they rebilled my friends, they knew I had paid for my meal, but not the three others? I've served in several restaurants in Ottawa and that explanation doesnt make a lot of sense to me. When I raised this with the owner she couldn't explain how it happened either. I'm also saddened by the fact that the owner, while very apologetic didnt offer to comp my meal or provide any type of compensation for double charging the table. The food was really delicious but I unfortunately I will never go back. The takeaway, please double and triple check your bills!!! And if you are trying to do something nice by covering others bills, make sure they dont secretly...
