Had a dinner here the other day here on one of their outdoor seating. Be aware that there is limited outdoor seating and you will be occasionally entertained by vehicles passing by and pedestrians (we didn't mind).
We tried:
The Janis chicken sandwich (menu says Chicken breast tossed with dill sour cream, pickles, cheddar cheese and green apple. Served on a fresh baked bread)
The Mandy Couscous with Chicken (menu says Israeli couscous with cucumber, carrot, radish, parsley, spinach, pickled red onion and a red wine vinaigrette)
And a pizza that was apparently a concept they were trying out (candied garlic, basil leaves, tomatoes, a white sauce, and drizzled with balsamic).
The sandwich was packed into a large pita, cut into two and was mild tasting with some nice tangy and sweet green apple bits that added nicely to the taste. The pita chips were good, with a dusting of spice. The sandwich is a cold sandwich and the chicken was prepared previously; the other ingredients were freshly prepared.
The salad was excellent, with large, nicely prepared Cuscous and generally mild overall but with some nice tangy picked veggies here and there.
The pizza was very tasty, although it could have been cooked just a tiny bit longer (given the amount of take-out orders coming thru the kitchen that evening, this was probably not typical). We would order it again. Actually, we would order all of the items we had on a future visit.
Service was enthusiastic and polite although he seemed to be the only staff on hand and served the meals with a lot of marker on his fingers, which was a bit off-putting. Still would give a thumb's up on the service.
The meal - with tip and alcohol - came to a reasonable $55 (the pizza was gratis as they were testing a new recipe).
Overall verdict is we'll definitely go...
Read moreThe pizza is good, but the experience was not up to the standards of the venue. Very classy looking place with antiques inside, however, they did not have a hand held menu. The service was also a little slow at the beginning, I had to go up and get waters myself (it was a hot day). To make matters worse I had no power and therefore no phone, but even if I did, I rather not look at a little screen and actually look at a menu.
I felt like a second class citizen, they don’t account for people who may be travelling and not have internet or people that don’t like to look at screens all day. I suggest you have a print out of a menu handy so if someone prefers to have a hand held menu you could accommodate. The cost is really not that much, and you are taking away from the eating out experience by not having...
Read moreTucked away in Ottawa’s food scene, this hipster pizza spot is an absolute gem. The pizzas are consistently excellent — creative, perfectly baked, and full of flavor — but it’s the dipping sauce that truly earns cult status. Whatever you order, make sure you don’t skip it.
The space is stylish and spotless, with just the right mix of laid-back charm and thoughtful design. It’s the kind of place you recommend once — and then your friends thank you every time they go back.
Yes, there might be a wait, especially during peak hours, but trust me — it’s worth every minute. This is easily one of the best pizza experiences in the city.
