First off, those that are giving the place a bad review because they waited in a long line during the first week of opening and then never got a cheese cake, because the demand was so high that they weren’t able to catch up by the time of the shops closing hours. That’s just not right. Please base your reviews on the customer service and the food.
Second, I fully expected to be waiting in a long line up when I got there at 11:00am. I was disturbingly surprised that there was no line up, but I think people didn’t realize they were open on Civic Holiday. I was in line maybe a minute at most, and that’s because I was the gentlemen and let a lady go first.
I got myself a cheese cake and honey madeleines and was out with a couple of minutes. Ok, I took a full minute to watch the staff prep a batch of cheese cakes too.
The cakes are so light and airy, unlike the dense North American style of cheese cake. I prefer the Japanese cheese cake to those. I’ve never had the honey madeleines before until now. They were really nice and my wife liked those too. I had dropped a couple of crumbs on my coffee table and my kitty gobbled it up! I guess she likes them too. LOL. They were the perfect sweetness and texture and it felt like they melted in my mouth...
The staff were friendly enough, greeted me and asked if I had any questions, which they all answered.
Definitely coming...
Read moreI’ve tried Uncle Tetsu’s in Toronto and was pretty excited when they opened in Ottawa. I went there when there was thankfully no lineup. The Service was quick, the cashier was friendly and gave me genuine service. I purchased a cheesecake and a honey Madeleine First, the honey Madeleine (for the size,) is overpriced at $2.50 and should probably be a dollar less. Nevertheless, as I am big fan of Madeleines, it was satisfactory. It was light and fluffy although it could use some more honey flavor. The cheese cake was a lot eggier this time. Tasting the egg like this usually spoils the experience for me as I’m not a big fan of the profound taste of eggs in my pastries. One can expect to have somewhat of an egg remnant with the style of this cheesecake. However, this was not the case with the cheesecakes I ate in Toronto. I put it in the fridge and the taste improved after it was chilled for 24 hours. Overall, it’s worth a visit to discover why Uncle Testu is unique among...
Read moreCheesecake - very airy (fluffy), eggy, balanced sweetness, with great texture and complexion that melts in the mouth. Only the original cheesecake is available. Eggy flavour is very much noticeable. Obviously it is not for vegans or strict vegetarians. Any one who doesn’t like the smell of lot of eggs need to be cautious to enter the store (they have strong egg smell inside the store). For most people it is worth the hype. For few people it’s one time thing. You must try once to know which category you belong. Most of the times you need to wait in the queue for a while (sometimes more than an hour). You can buy only one cheesecake per person. Honey madelaines - decent but not that great. Crispy outside and soft inside with light sweetness of honey. Rusks and biscottes - they are frequently out of them. You will have a view of the kitchen and...
