What a great find for me and my wife!! We parked in the garage across the street and were looking at the map in front of the restaurant. One of the wait staff asked where we were thinking of going and then gave us great directions. Based on that, we came back for lunch!
The restaurant is gorgeous, definitely the Irish pub feel. We asked to sit outside, but in the shade. We were led to an alley, which made me think "what in the world...." until we hit the end of the alley and got to a courtyard that was almost magical! It was spectacular!
The menu is varied and very interesting. We had a hard time deciding on what to order and the waitress was a great help. My wife had the jerk chicken sandwich and I had the Jameson burger. My wife was a little apprehensive about the sandwich as she's not fond of a lot of spice.
The food was well presented and tasted even better than it looked! My burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Smothered in mushrooms and Jameson BBQ sauce with onions & arugula on a very fresh bun. It was a perfect burger - big, juicy (not greasy!), amazing flavors.
My wife loved the jerk chicken sandwich! She said the spicy level was perfect - lots of flavors that worked very well together, definitely something she would order again.
And the sides... We didn't want the standard fries and there are some great other sides available. My wife had the roasted vegetables and she said she could have just had those and been very happy with lunch!! I was allowed a small taste and they were really good. I had a side of mashed potatoes (it's an Irish pub!) and they didn't disappoint. They were real potatoes, topped with green onion and just perfect!
I wish we had thought to take pictures, but the smells were too much to resist diving right in!
The waitress (Allison) was very good - friendly and paid appropriate attention to us.
Yes, the cost was a little above average. I had a soda and my wife had an ice tea. Before tip, it was $52.23 Canadian - both of us thought is was a fair price given how great the food & service were. We will...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to say I was very disappointed with my experience at the Heart and Crown on Saturday July 2nd 2022. A friend and I were enjoying cocktails on the patio in the early evening until it started getting busy with the evening crowd coming in around 830 PM. The service became shoddy and where we were earlier waiting for maybe 10 minute tops for drinks to come around, it turned into 20 minutes. I decided to go to the bar after quite a while of waiting. I grabbed two rum and cokes, paid for them and on the way back, took a sip of my drink that was nothing more than Coke. There was no rum in my drink whatsoever. I went back and questioned the bar staff about this but was met with little concern and outright disdain other than "whatever bud." I am a former Moxies, Malibu Jacks, O'tooles, Tucson Roadhouse bartender and I know what a rum and coke looks like... and tastes like. We were given 2 cokes in a rocks glass and a complete gaslight routine. Funny, the bartender had the old liquor tester unit out to try and make me look "scientifically" wrong. Unfortunately I have no idea what he actually dipped it in or what the reading was. The bartenders were so proud of there scientific findings they were actually high 5-ing each other. It was quite the display of arrogance. As I recall, the only bars that had these tester kits so readily available were the ones who were routinely questioned about serving drinks with no booze in them.?? A woman Manager showed up and put on a show in front of her bar staff rather than trying to accommodate a dissatisfied paying customers. Gaslighted again. Insulting to say the least. She muttered a bunch of stuff under her breath as we were being escorted out. What a joke. You can pull that stuff on the 17 year old girls who you let in to drink but not on adults in Ottawa who have the real money to support this town,. Disgraceful will never come back to H and C. Probably spent 5 K here over the...
Read moreWow. I haven’t had this bad service in... ever? First of all, we order and the waiter asks if we want to start a tab on a quiet Thursday evening. I say oh no this is it for now so he says “Ok so I’ll bring the bills out then”. I thought I just have heard wrong because we just ordered and he already wanted to bring the bill out? I didn’t hear wrong. He brings us our bill BEFORE OUR FOOD EVEN GOT THERE. So I ask him if we can at least get the food first before paying in case it takes too long or something. He says sure, brings the food, I begin eating and he then brings the bill IN THE MIDDLE OF US EATING. Makes us stop eating and pay. Not only that, but he didn’t hand me over the bill, only the machine, which I paid. I then realized that the price was too high for what I had ordered. So I call him back over and I say “I think you gave me the 20oz beer when I asked for the 12oz.” * My beer was half full btw when I said this, I didn’t intend to drink the rest because I had ordered a 12oz.* and he says he’ll ask the manager to which he answers “Well you didn’t correct me when I brought out the beer so” so I tell him “Because when I order something I expect the right thing to be brought out” and he says he can’t do anything about it so I ask to talk to the manager. Which she comes out and I explain the situation and she fixed it. But the waiter was so damn rude. I didn’t care about the 3.50. I cared about the fact that he was rude as hell and I still tipped when he didn’t deserve a damn tip especially when I said he didn’t give me a bill he said “Well I remember handing it to you so” WHICH HE DID NOT - because I would have caught the mistake he made! And when I said “I asked for the 12 oz not the 20oz” he said “I don’t remember you saying that so”. Just so freaking rude. Anyways good luck with service if you come here. Really bad...
