One of the more notable landmarks in Ottawa's byward market area is the giant eight legged sculpture of an egg carrying spider in front of the National Gallery of Canada. Maman is a bronze, stainless steel and marble cast creation by Louise Bourgeois. This sculpure represents fertility, motherhood in a icky yet interesting way. It draws us towards it and the Art Gallery in an almost irresistible hypnotic fashion. When taking different views of the spider it almost makes you believe that there is an alien invasion going on. Sort of like what happen during the bicentennial 2017 event Ottawa had with La Machine. I recommend visitors come see both Maman and the Art Gallery when they come to Ottawa.

Motherhood is beautiful and should be glorified. This attacks the natural beauty of human motherhood and attributes it to that...
