We called a month in advance to make a reservation for our large party. The hostess offered a specific seating time to accommodate our group. When we arrived they had seated 2 other large parties around the same time. There were long gaps in our service. We noticed the other tables were getting attentive service — refills on drinks, water, and bread. We were not. We consistently had to flag down a server as ours seemed to be in another area. Our appetizers arrived about 30 minutes after seating. Our main courses arrived an hour later. Our server finally came over and said our meals were arriving shortly. Meanwhile the manager, Terry was floating around the room, talking to other tables and clearly avoided our table. When our main courses did arrive, the fish was overcooked. At this point, we weren’t going to complain because we were starving. We had a few bites and the manager came over and asked how our meals were. Yes, now that we had food he could stop ignoring us!! When we responded that the steak sandwich was tough, he didn’t seem prepared for the answer and became an offended. As he walked away he blurted, “I will comp your meal.” By this time we were feeling really uncomfortable. This wasn’t a pleasant experience. Furthermore, we had told the restaurant we were celebrating a birthday and two other tables had birthday celebrations — desserts came with candles. Our server arrived with dessert and no fanfare or candle. We didn’t feel that we got the service that others received in the restaurant. After we paid the bill and gave the server a decent tip, despite everything that had happened, and then Terry felt obligated to come over and wish us a good evening. At this point, it was very strained. We can’t recommend this place even though we’ve dined here before .Sub par. Update Terry called to apologize. He said it was a hectic night. He was genuinely surprised that our server didn’t acknowledge...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this place. We found it when searching for 'French' cuisine and when I saw that, combined with a "Newfie twist" (like my wife), we knew we had to go in. I'll start with the food. There were three of us. My father had the special. Snapper served with risotto & peas, baked tomato and a bowl of gaspacho soup. Wonderful, fresh, perfectly cooked. Next up, for my wife, a simple fish (Cod) and chips. The fish was light, sweet, flaky and the best I think I've ever tasted. The chips were lightly crisped and moist on the inside, just the way I like them. She would have preferred them a little more done, which she will ask for next time. I had beef rib. I had to laught with our waitress who told me "I would have brought you a steak knife, but you won't need it". I could have cut it with a spoon. Moist, tasty, melt on your tongue. I think my sides were brussel sprouts in a balsamic reduction also amazibg) and potatoes (?). My mouth overcame my mind. Desserts were cheesecake, and a bread pudding that was the equal of grandma's. Not too surprising considering that the owners' origins are from the same district in Newfoundland as my wife. Yes, in addition to the wonderful staff, with a special shout-out to their amazing chef, the two brothers who own this Newfie themed establishment are very involved, circulating amongst the customers, staff and kitchen. It was a great pleasure to have met you all. We added ourselves to the mailing list and are planning another visit to Ottawa (from Toronto) based on one of their theme nights (Newfie dinner). We truly look forward to seeing...
Read moreTried to come here a few weeks ago, the lady who first helped us was nice and tried to accommodate us 2 adults and 3 children (2 strollers) we were trying to get situated at a table on their patio when a older man came out and began to speak very aggressively. The waitress did mention to not block the front doors but in order for us to get the strollers to the tables we would have to pass the front door which just so happens someone was trying to exit. The older man said “you can’t block the door” which I understood. He then said we can’t sit on the patio and we would have to move inside which was also fine. What wasn’t fine was when he heard we had white noise playing for one of the babies to fall asleep. He asked what that noise was and we explained that it was for the baby to fall asleep. He then rudely said “when we get inside you need to turn that off” We told him that’s fine as well but there are so many other ways to ask (nicely) At this point we’re following him into the restaurant for a table and he goes first and doesn’t care to look back as the door hits my stroller and I’m struggling to enter. At this point my friend and I don’t feel very welcomed or appreciate the rude service. We tell the lady that first helped us that we’re sorry and not going to stay. This was the first time I’ve ever encountered such a horrible experience where I decided not to stay. It’s a shame because the menu...
