We'd been to this place before and thought it was so/so. Not great, just average. We decided to go back and give it another try and were quite disappointed. Many AYCE Sushi restaurants now use electronic methods for the customers to submit their orders. Well, this was a wicked visit for sure. For about 50% of the items on their sheets where you check off what you want, they didm't match the lettering and numbers on the plastic menu. As an example if you wanted chicken teriyaki, it would be say D05 on the plastic menu, but when you wanted to mark it as an item you wanted, it wasn't D05 on the paper sheet but maybe D09. That is only an example, and it made it extremely hard to find the item you wished to order. I mentioned there was a mismatch and they said they were getting new menus. I asked about the use of a tablet like so many Sushi places are going to or already have as that's nothing new and was informed they were sticking with the paper menus. This drastically reduced the dining experience and people at other tables were telling us how hard it was to find what you wished to order. I'd always liked the mussels there but this time they were somewhat rubbery. Also, because we didn't always get everything we ordered I put my cellphone camera to good use and snapped a pic of the paper menu so we could easily show what we ordered and what we didn't get. Something I'd recommend to others if they'd had such...
Read moreThis has been one of my favorite places to eat, and I've always made a point to come any time I'm in Ottawa, but my last 2 visits put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I came as a group of 4, splitting checks. There was a lot of confusion regarding our checks when we went to pay. We still don't know how many checks our order ended up being in the end, but it was far more than 4. We knew there was confusion regarding our appetizers, and had come up with a plan to handle it, but the confusion seemed... deeper. We had to ask at multiple points in the process if we'd paid for everything, and I didn't think we ever got a straight answer.
That would all be fine, I get how splitting checks can get confusing and I was sorry for the chaos, but I came back a couple days later by myself, and it seemed the staff recognized me. I overheard them talking about the confusion from our last visit, including a part when the server handling our payments said she, "definitely overcharged us". Not exactly my favorite thing to hear. I apologized for our last visit when I went up to pay, but I really wish I had said more. I can take the hit of a little extra cash, but I don't know about my friends. I don't know how much we were overcharged or who took the brunt of it. Maybe would have just been happier not knowing at all, but the staff were talking about it openly in the...
Read more(I know it's a long review, I just really enjoyed this restaurant and the people, and it is a shame to see where it's going) This restaurant used to be one of my favorites, and it still is in my top 5 based on food. Pre-pandemic, I was one of their regular customers, they even knew me by name. However, I am extremely disappointed in the fact they have gotten rid of the "all you can eat" factor. Other sushi places have this concept, so it is not because of the pandemic, they just used the pandemic as an excuse (and, not to mention "all you can eat" is not a buffet-style theme. You can just eat as much as you want.) Delivery is so expensive. 4 items cost me over 50$ through Uber. That's just ridiculous. The quality is decent (sometimes), but at the price that it is at right now, I cannot keep spending money as often as I used to. I think this is not a good idea to get rid of that concept. Not only that, they have gotten rid of about half the menu (one of the items being my favorite item, the chicken teppaniyaki) which is leaving less of a variety. It is really unfortunate since this restaurant has so much potential, but I think combining the two things I wrote about will cost them alot of their targeted customers...
