Disappointing. I got the chicken platter here and my chicken was burnt black and inedible. "jollof rice" was not good, overcooked and no spice or flavor, but plantains were perfectly cooked and delicious. Portion size wise, found it a bit expensive for almost $30. Staff here wasn't very friendly. Called and the manager/owner? Was very friendly and apologetic, tried to take care of me. Honestly only reason I did not leave a 1 star review. They offered to remake it, and offered something else on the menu. I ended up getting the lamb from their other location as I didn't have much confidence in the downtown location. Called at 7:50 for my replacement, it was supposed to take around 15-20 minutes to make my replacement but I ended up having to wait over an hour for it. The restaurant was completely empty when I arrived around 8:10pm. The lady at the restaurant was friendlier, but was on speakerphone talking to someone the entire time and using a hairdryer on what I assume was coals on the grill. This time the food wasn't burnt, lamb was good, but the rice and plantains were disappointing. Rice was sweeter here, but no flavour or spice. All in all, owner seemed nice and genuine, but the poor service from staff on location, long wait time, and the quality and taste of the food here being not great made me regret going in the first place. I appreciate the remake and owner trying to make it right. Needs a lot more oversight in my opinion.

I had a craving for jolif rice but wasnt near the restaurant i frequent visit, ao i tried this spot after looking at the great reviews. I ordered just rice when it arived i took one bite and this wasnt it, Worst rice I've ever tasted in my life. It reminded me of something that you get in an uncle bens package. I came here because of the reviews but clearly reviews don't mean much. I never had jolof rice much before & I'm so glad it wasn't at this location for the first time cause that would of turned me off this african cuisine. I took two bites, no flavor wasn't smokey, it tasted awful. I brought it back to the server and mentioned that this isn't good at all. At first they didn't want to refund me (I just wanted rice) I went to this mom and pop African restaurant called le african cuisine. This place jolif is amazing they came first place in an actual jolif rice contest. I thought this place (african bbq) would be even better but was I wrong. It actually made me sad to do what I did since I hate wasting food but I wasn't going to eat it and if they made me pay for it I would of just gave it to someone in need, I would maybe eat it if it was free and I had nothing else but as a paying customer this is unacceptable. Long story short I did not expect their rice would be that pathetic or I wouldn't of stepped into this establishment Thank you for your time

We were served raw chicken, and when I raised the issue, the staff’s solution was to take it back to the kitchen and re-cook the same piece. I refused because that’s simply not hygienic. Instead of offering a new dish, they told me they had no more chicken. I politely suggested replacing it with lamb or beef, but they refused, saying those items “aren’t the same price.” When I asked what could be done, they said my only option was to return the same meat to re-cook it, which I obviously declined. The situation got even worse: the female waiter/cashier working on Saturday night, October 11, 2025, came back to our table after seeing me take a photo and said, in a rude and confrontational tone, “Do you want to take more pictures?” She then added, “We don’t offer free food,” and started removing our plates without asking, even though some weren’t finished. We’ve been regular customers here and often brought visitors to dine with us, but after this experience, we will never return. It’s disappointing to see how poorly this was handled. Until the restaurant reconsiders who represents them and how they treat loyal guests, they’ve lost several of us for good.

If I could leave 0 star, I would. Very bad customer service. All they care about is money and not customer satisfaction. I called at 12:23 to order the lunch menu listed at 9.99 on their website(see photo) and told them I would pick up at 1pm on my lunch. The guy on the phone said no problem, it'll be ready in 10min. I get to the location, they tell me they never received the order so food is not ready, but can be in 10min. I accept to wait 10-15min. Once the food is ready, I see the total coming to 14.67$ instead of 11$(9.99$+tax). I ask the lady why the website says a different price, she tells me many people have been complaining about it but its the boss, she has no way to change the price. I said that's not honest. I couldve paid the extra 3$ but I don't like the fact that y'all just lying to people and force them to pay your real price during pick up, especially since I could've choose to go somewhere else. So I leave the restaurant frustrated with no food after spending almost 30min of my 1h lunch. I decide to call back the number and ask to speak with a supervisor or manager. I recognize the voice of the guy who initially took my order and explains the whole situation. He does not even apologies on the fact that my food was not ready after 40min of calling and tells me that about the price, they changed their price on the website yesterday and it has not been updated yet, which is not true because their employee told me many people had been complaining. I found it...
