Times are tough in the doughnut business, disgusting (don't read on if you're sensitive) - We've ordered doughnuts a handful of times but usually have friend who brings them over. The doughnuts themselves average/pretty good. Given the choice I'll typically order a morning bun or one of the classic dirty chocolates/maple bacon. I went this morning to the St.Laurent location to order six doughnuts. Ordering was quick there was no line. I got a box of doughnuts and hopped in the car and we drove away. When we're on Innes we opened the box (who doesn't love "roadies"?) and it was obvious there was a mix-up in the order. We turned around and after a few minutes I was back at the window asking for the right doughnut (mistakes happen no biggie). What happened next blew my mind. The window person took my open box of doughnuts picked out the doughnut that was wrong AND PUT IT BACK IN THE CASE FOR RESALE !!!!!!!!!! (it was cinnamon toast crunch if you're wondering). This is totally unacceptable - at $5 a doughnut I get it - God forbid you give one away but it should never be given to someone else after having left the store. Seeing this I can only imagine what happens in the back, this "don't waste product" behavior obviously extends throughout the business. Now I am left second guessing every crunchy piece.
Also, $5 a doughnut, I would expect this price in a sit down establishment with real overhead. It's more insulting when the sign says "charging our prices so our doughnuts don't" a quick scroll through Insta make it pretty clear you've been changing/shrinking the doughnuts for a while.
Times are tough in the (doughnut) world I get it - unsafe food practices are inexcusable however. There was no hesitation in "swapping doughnuts" and this concerns me. I wish now I had mentioned something because the box was open in our car and I'm feeling under the weather but honestly I was in shock. I'm sorry if I made...
Read moreOdd experience. It was about an hour from close. The kid at window was super sweet and nice. I wanted to buy 12 hazeldeans. They only had10. This was like the 4th or 5th time in a just over a week I’d dropped by to try. Always missing out.
He asked and they said they would make another batch. I said I’ll take that new batch and I’ll prob get 6 more from window for sibling. While I was ending phone call, some guy with more authority had come and was packing my doughnuts from the window batch…and calls out to the person behind…”don’t bring them here yet, I’ll explain why later”… I mean do you really think that your customer is that stupid to not know. 🙄
Instead of being rude and sneaky, why not just say, “Miss it’s against policy or we can only give you these, do you still want them? Or I want that new batch for my own family” or whatever your reason was, since it was very near closing times and the odds were they didn’t sell out, but for goodness sakes, just be honest. It’s a better look. What’s the difference anyway…whatever the logic, you could have just explained honestly.
Anyone I’ve told this too was also very unimpressed and thought what you did was “stupid”, “rude”…and just “poor service”…
I was parked there for a bit waiting for someone so I know you didn’t even have enough customers after me that they did not all sell…so weird.
I def didn’t take the extra six. When you realized I had wanted more, it was clear you realized … and more seemed now possible. I repeated “well you only made 4 right??”…and you realized I knew and said “these are fresh they’re all from the same dough” … I can tell you since I had two fresh ones that it was not the same. They’re all good enough but the fresh ones were better.
The two stars is because the young guy at window was very good. You...
