Questions were not readily answered - basic ones such as 'do you sell coffee grinders?' and 'Is there a two for one treat deal?' were fumbled around from barista to barsita like some infinite, intolerable game of 'pass the ball'. When asked for help with directions to a locaton a handful of blocks away I was met with blank gazes and similar incoherent ramblings. Bit of a strange environment overall - confused, corporate and cookie cutter vibes with the owner obviously still on the 'young girls are the best to ply coffee' train. Bit bizarre this still exists in today, isn't it? The vegan, gluten free healthier food options from Gratify, art and plants were perhaps the only points of light in this otherwise dark cafe, although they felt somehow inauthentic - as though they were trying to be 'that cafe' but instead coming off a bit desperate and needy. I wanted to ask whether their quiche had added sugar and what they had used to sweeten the chocolate peanut butter treat but felt resistant to another game of 'who knows the answer? You? I don't know. What do you think? Hmmmm. I dunno. What do you mean? Maybe!' and just attempted to enjoy it while an earlier customer smoked outside the window, obsuring my view and dampening my efforts to enjoy some people watching. They did provide a glass of water and an extra plate when asked, though again, at that point I felt too exhausted to ask for a bit of lemon or lime for the water. The loud voice of another customers who thought that speaking at a decible level effusive enough for the next block over to hear was also not the most...
Read moreGreat little cafe, the owner is beyond lovely. They make great tea lattes. Unfortunately as someone with celiac disease you cannot eat there, as there is cross contamination and not many gluten free options other than the options they have from the Penticton restaurant called Gratify. They have some of gratify’s deserts and now the bowls which I noticed the last time I was in there. The bowls may be safe as long as the lids have not been removed. But the treats are all in the same cabinet as gluten containing treats and it looks as though they use the same tongs for all treats, so there will be cross contamination there.
I only ever go for lattes here, but they are some of the best lattes in town. I’ve never had any symptoms with the lattes I have gotten from here. Make sure if you are going with oat milk to ask if it’s gluten free.
Would highly recommend, but if you have celiac disease, just be aware of the potential cross contamination with the food. If you do not have celiac disease I’ve heard the food and treats are wonderful! Have one or two...
