Drove over an hour there on Saturday after my husband had raved about the food he’d enjoyed on a previous visit and we were excited to go after all the good things he said about the food.
Food: The food itself was EXCELLENT and prepared fresh - we each had the shrimp roti.
Service: Owner was busy doing a catering and made it known as soon as we walked in the door to place our order which was NOT a good first impression but we assumed it would get better when she agreed to serve us anyway. While we waited our food, another group 4 came in to pick up their order and the owner complained to them too about how busy she was with this catering event. They were visibly awkward about this information, gathered their food, apologized for “bothering” her and left. When our food was ready, she again complained about this catering event that she was so busy with and how the catering customer kept calling to add to their order. NOT something customers should EVER have to hear! She clearly knew she had a catering that day, so she could have put a sign in the door that she was “closed for a special event” and have updated her voicemail so people calling in with orders would know too, but instead, she felt that complaining to her walk-in pick-up customers was a better way to deal with the situation. I don’t know why she didn’t hire help if she was so busy, or like I said, indicate the shop is closed for the day. She also only accepts cash (no debit or credit), so come prepared for that.
*Food is for take-out or catering only. While there are 2 tables with chairs in the restaurant, it’s a small space and the seating areas are only for sitting while you’re awaiting your pick-up food to be prepared. Canned and Grace brand bottle drinks are available for purchase.
Summary: Great food. It’s not cheap (most options are just under $20). Despite the taste and the cost ($45 for 2 roti and 2 canned drinks), I won’t be back only because of the whining about this catering event. Completely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable and unappreciated, and made the other pick-up customers uncomfortable too.
There is a highly rated Mexican restaurant right across the street that I would rather go to for great food AND service. Sorry, Rehanah, you blew it - had the restaurant been closed, it would have been a better experience than hearing you complain about being too busy. Don’t worry - we won’t be an inconvenience to your...
Read moreMy husband offered to take my daughter and I to Rehanah's Roti Shop in Port Moody, and I jumped at the opportunity to go there. It had been a few years since we last went there and I'd been itching to go there for awhile. As the name of the shop implies, they serve Roti, but not just any Roti...they serve Trinidadian style Roti. My mother was born and raised in Trinidad, so Trinidadian food holds a special place in my heart.
Trinidadian Roti is basically a wrap sandwich that's filled with curried meat, vegetable or seafood filling. There's dhalpourie roti or paratha roti (also known as bussup shut). Rehanah's Roti sells dhalpourie roti. Difference between dhalpourie and bussup shut? The explanation I've heard is that bussup shut is "busted up" into tattered pieces.
Roti: We ordered Shrimp Roti and Mixed Veggie Roti. Awesome flavour; however the filling is heavy with potatoes and sparse on the other ingredients. The Vegetarian Rotis are all under $10; however, the meat and seafood Rotis can be a bit pricey considering how much of the Roti is filled with potato.
Service: Fair (One woman running the entire shop. She takes the order, runs the till, and makes the food.) Parking: Free street parking Location: On St. Johns St., which is a main street lined with shops and restaurants in Port Moody.
It's a very small restaurant and as a result of the pandemic they only do takeout. There is however, a small table and chairs to sit and wait while your order is being prepared. There are so few places that serve Trinidadian food. This place is a...
Read moreI don't like to leave bad reviews, but this experience warrants one. Thought we'd try this place out since the reviews looked decent. Walked in and the lady working there said "be right with you." Cool, no prob. So while checking out the menu she comes out to say she's not really open today,12:30pm on a Saturday when hours stated 11:30am open. But, she said she'd make something for us. Ok, so ordered 2 veg rotis abd another item she said was not available. She then said "You will get this to go." Ok, so we are now feeling like an inconvenience as paying customer. I asked for a bag of plantains, she slams them down. "Is that everything?" Yes I thought so. We pull out a card, she says huffing and puffing "I'm only accepting cash." As I'm looking for some cash she storms off to the back to prepare our food. I stopped a second and thought. Why am I here? All I wanted was a delicious lunch. Why would I pay someone to treat me with disrespect and demanding my money? So I looked back at her and said forget it. I have never been treated like such an inconvenience. As a customer this was my first and last visit to Rehanahs. Pitty I didn't get to try the food. But I will only support businesses that are friendly and food prepared with love. (On a positive note, we went to Jamaican restaurant in New West which was the complete opposite. Friendly, informative...
