Grillades Yelkabe — Restaurant in Quebec

Great African restaurant with excellent flavors and decent portion sizes.

As it's hard to find reservations on the weekends, decided to come here with my family (5). Made a reservation the day of just in case. The restaurant itself is a little on the smaller side with around 20ish capacity, so it may not be suitable for large groups unless you call ahead.

As for the food, ordered the sharing platter which comes with all of the meat options (fish, lamb chops, chicken, beef + chicken skewers), 5 sides (plantains, rice, cassava, fries, salad, also grilled onions as a plus), and 4 drinks (drinks are limited to pop and water).

All of the proteins had a great charred BBQ taste, and although it took a little for the food to come, we appreciate it was made to order. The chicken skewers were very tender, the lamb chops had great flavor, the half chicken had excellent flavor and the fish was very soft. Paired with the rice, the flavors mixed extremely well and overall a super tasty dinner.

We were looking for a healthier option for dinner after a day of pastries and sweets. Grillades Yelkabe was just down the block from our hotel, and we were able to do takeaway. Owner Saikou was so friendly and kind, helping us order their delicious half chicken and beef skewer platters as well as the excellent filet mignon skewer (a la carte). For sides, got the salad (the mustard dressing was da bomb!), cassava and plantains. Don’t forget to ask for their hot sauce - so spicy, so good! The meat was incredibly tender and everything was just so fresh. You can tell all the food is made with a lot of love and care. Definitely try. The food is very tasty. We had the filet mignon brochette and the chicken. We loved the formula. The main comes with 2 sides that you pick. The plantains were excellent. Not greasy. The pilaf rice was well perfumed. And you also pick a drink. Although my ginger drink came with an extra, it was worth it. Intense ginger taste.
