Excalipurr Cat Cafe — Restaurant in Regina

Debated giving 1 star. For a locally run business, who rely’s on the community I think they would have a better attitude towards the customer. I have had 3 separate interactions with the staff and all negative.

1. I donated approx $300 worth of food, toys, collars, bowls and blankets. Almost all new. Not ONE thank you. They almost didn’t even seem to care, even though they had a call out for donations at the time. I asked if I could just pop in to look at the cats to see how happy they are. She refused and said I’d have to pay.. to literally look for 1 minute… left a bad taste in my mouth.
2. went with my husband and our baby. Because I was holding my daughter and didn’t have her in a carrier they insisted I pay full price for a literal baby. So hot tip, bring a carrier for you babe.
3. the sign in counter, beverage system is ran poor. You try to sign in and at the same time if you wish order a drink but there is only one girl doing both so it takes a long time. There was another girl there but she was just visiting and talking with her friends. They offered to bring our drink into the cat room which was nice. But what I didn’t realize is everyone else order drinks as well and we had to wait for her to make all the drinks before she brought ours. Which led to a lengthy wait.
4. They talk about the cleanliness of the cat room I need in 15 minutes for each booking to clean. They may be came in and put away toys for about a minute and a half the room desperately needed sweeping, but they are more concerned with just putting away the toys and there are minimal ones of those. Their water dishes desperately needed cleaning.

The overall impression I get is the staff is very unfriendly and not at all inviting for a business which rely solely on the generosity of others to help them survive and...

It's a cute idea but I wouldn't go again. We (my husband and I) took our three children this past weekend. I read a head of time it's one adult for every two children and no where did it say reservations required. When we arrived the employee read me the riot act because she only had room for four people and because she wouldn't let all five of us in I choose to let the three kids and myself in as the supervisor and my husband sat out in the cafe. However it was somehow my fault I didn't have adequate supervision.... Yet we came in with the right amount of adults. You are not allowed to pick up the cats, so how would I know if I wanted to adop one if we can't hold it? We are pet owners and know how to handle animals but she came in staring at us like we were going to harm them. They seem happy so I'm sure they are cared for and She also came in and told us the cat area was closing so we had to leave, that would have been nice to know before we paid to sit in there. They obviously get enough company so I would spend your time at the humane society because you can pick up the cats, brush them and play with them and they don't get as much company as the ones at this cafe so they appreciate the attention. I think that this is set up for a specific type of person that just wants to sit around cats but not really...

UPDATE - reply to owner’s comment: Thanks for your quick reply and all these details. FYI, after around 15min my wife and I couldn’t stay inside longer due the smell, kept kids continue enjoy their time with lovely cats, and my wife informed the front desk lady that smell was so strong but she confirmed with no action. We didn’t know the source of the smell, as litter box or else, but you can immediately recognize it at the first step in to the room. If we knew it litter box we would ask the lady. Anyway we reported it to her but she said ya and nothing more. Sorry if my review upset you, you seemed, but I hoped you take it positively as feedback rather than a negative comment, which I didn’t mean. We liked the visit and we will surely come again.
