We decided to go here because my partner had worked there 40 years ago and had fond memories of the place. Immediately I was struck by the very cosy, elegant atmosphere. Our server, Brett, was one of the best I've ever had. Intuitive, great suggestions, great attitude, humour, and made a mean Manhatton. His suggestions about what to order were so on point and specific. We had the escargot, which was en par with high end steak places, a bit salty, but the homemade garlic bread sopped up all the deliscious buttery goodness. The caeser salad was prefectly chilled, plentiful, and creamy, albeit without baon and anchovies. Had the perfect bite. The soup of the day was a creamy brocolli cheese, which Brett put extra cheese on. We didn't think we'd have room for our mains but they were so good, we left nothing on our plates. The lamb was cooked perfectly, with julienne veggies, and Brett suggested the potatoes with a side of Tzatziki which was amazing. I had hesitatedly ordered the pasta with seafood because the sauce described said' mild', and I like my garlic. Well Brett convinced me that it was the dish to try, so I did....and boy I didn't regret it. The seafood was plentiful, fresh, and the dish WAS super creamy and had tons of authentic flavour. The portions are huge here, so be ready to eat. Even the house wine was good. Will definately come back when in town. A bit pricey, but worth it for date night. I did wish I'd dressed up a bit more, even though most people were fairly casual. The Cottage is definately 'Date...
Read moreWe visited the Cottage for my parents 57th wedding anniversary and because they needed to get on the highway to return home, we got there shortly after 4pm. Not being overly hungry, mom and I ordered the clam chowder, my dad had the beef barley soup. Two of the orders were the Giambette pasta, which in the description listed crab, mussels, scallops and shrimp. Neither of the orders had a piece of crab meat in it. The clam chowder had an abundance of potatoes with minimal tiny clams, and the beef barley soup had two small pieces of beef in the entire bowl of soup. I need to reiterate that the flavours of these soups and the pasta were very tasty.
What the issue is, is the lack of clams in clam chowder and lack of beef in the beef barley soup, as well as not one piece of crab meat in the pasta dishes. When I addressed this with our waiter, all he could say was “these are the recipes we’ve used for decades”…and? When crab is listed as one of the seafoods in the pasta, there should be crab in the pasta ($33+tax for this pasta dish). The waiter explained they sprinkle crab into the sauce for flavour. The description for the pasta dish is very deceptive and misleading.
I chose the Cottage because two years ago, I was there for New Year’s Eve and had an amazing steak meal that evening. With so many restaurant choices in Regina, I won’t be returning to a restaurant that had no interest in hearing what the customer has to say (just repeat excuses as a response), unless it’s...
Read moreI took some family for a nice dinner and was extremely disappointed.
I orders a beer with our meal and was told that their 2 options for draft weren't available as they'd had a problem with the taps. I order a bottle from their very limited selection and it came warm in a warm glass. Not impressed but was told that it was a power issue with the same system that had impacted the taps. Not happy, but out of their control.
We orders our meals and 5 out of the 6 were very good bordering on excellent. I order their big rib steak medium rare. The waiter came by about the time we'd expected to start getting our meals to confirm how I wanted my steak and he said it might be medium which I was ok with. Weird but I can roll with that.
We get our meals and my $60+ steak is very well done. I went and talked to the manager and was unimpressed to say the least. He "graciously" said he'd take my steak off the bill... to which I told him that was good as I wasn't willing to pay for it. He the extended his generosity to also comp me the $7 sauce I'd ordered with the steak. Was unimpressed. Saying that, if had a chance to sample the sauce and it was pretty good.
The ambiance was very outdated and not an atmosphere that I like, very dark and dingy like a place you'd expect to see the local mobsters making a deal in the back corner.
Anyway, the waiter was fantastic, manager not so much... not what you'd expect for a high end restaurant... they certainly could have done...
